I ordered and should receive my new trigger next week. I’ve never done any work on an AR, but it looks pretty simple. I have a few basic questions though.
The job appears pretty idiot proof, but if anything can be screwed up, I’m sure I’ll find a way. Tips and info are appreciated.
In MOST cases, you can work the trigger out without removing the safety. If you need to remove the safety, 1.) remove your hand grip, 2.) remove safety spring and detent (under grip) and remove safety. Replace with new FCG and put safety back in etc… removing the safety is the better way to do it because you have less of a chance of scratching up your receiver.
I found it difficult at first getting the trigger pin thru and found that if you keep constant pressure on the pin as you vacillate the trigger back and forth against the spring the pin will pop thru and then you can push the rest of the way with the punch… if you try and guess exactly where the trigger should go in its slot and hit the pin with a hammer or wood block and the holes are not aligned properly you will fail or possibly damage the trigger. It took alot of time and foul language for me due to my inexperience, but now I’ll bet I could do it in under 5 minutes. Good Luck:p
Prior info all good - if you have any mechanical inclination - should be no problem.
Watch the punch - too much and into the receiver can egg-out the pin holes.
Loosen pistol grip for potential selector removal - use hammer/punch to pop out hammer pin then pop out trigger pin.
