Question's on AR-7

A buddy of mine has an Armalite AR-7 that he may sell me, but I’m in need of more info on this rifle. I’ve seen it, and it has the multi-color stock, all the parts, box, and owners manual.

Should I buy this? If so, how much is it going for? Blue book say’s 400, but I have never seen one for sale before.

Thank’s for any info:)

mod’s please move if in wrong section.

Do you have need in a breakdown .22? If so, pick it up. I’ve had one for years, but rarely shoot it. Mine isn’t the most reliable gun out there and failures to feed are the most common malfunction

I’ve only been around the newer ones but they have a steel lined plastic barrel that is shall I say flexible. Nice concept but modest execution and quality. On the other hand the Marlin Papoose looks a lot better and is more reliable. The AR-7 I shot had a terrible pull length and grip. I guess they had to make it so bulky to get everything inside the stock. They are very common, at least the newer ones.

if you’re looking for a take down carbine get a Marlin Papoose

Had a Charter Arms AR-7, sold it.

Garbage ergonomics, garbage sights, garbage trigger, garbage reliability.

It breaks down small and floats in water, and those are the only two conceivable pluses.

Not long after I sold it I had the opportunity to try a Springfield M6 Scout and I consider it to be a much better gun for the same purposes as the AR-7 (except it can do more thanks to it’s .410 barrel). The “trigger” takes more than a little getting used to, though.

I think I’ll pass on this. Seems like more of a collector thing, than a shooter.

Thanks for the replies.

My Henry AR-7 has been very reliable. I shoot it and my S&W AR 15-22 frequently in my basement where I have 50ft available. It lives in my go bag. Easy carry for hiking and for travel in cars and private airplanes.
