Questions on 180gr 40 S&W OAL and over-pressure dangers...

There’s no way in hell I’d even approach max with Titegroup. It has extreme pressure spike when loaded warm.

Definitely noted.

Here’s the best pic I could get of the PMC brass bulge. They’re not massive bulges, but they’re there.

It doesn’t look like a Glock bulge. It is too high above the web and too gradual toward the brass mouth. A bit over sized chamber + warm load could cause bulge of such kind. Mostly it will be sized down with regular sized die. I wouldn’t worry about it.

A bona fi Glock bulge can be seen here

Makes sense. I’ve only seen this on my forties. But yeah… I’d assume a regular resize would smoosh it back into shape.

Couple of factory 180 gr chrono results from Saturday:

RMR and American reloading are both out of 40 projectiles. Now that I have 3 40 cal glocks, I’m taking a look a reloading this round again.

I’d just go with Everglades. Good stuff.

I’m about sick of American Reloading. I’ve gotten some amazing deals from them, but it seems increasingly the pulled bullets are absolute shit.

It’s a gamble…this last batch 1,000 9mm slugs is just crap…deep pull marks, and about 8-10% are undersized & unuseable. They’re PULLS, not BLEMS. FUCK!

I agree. I’ve had crazy stuff happening with my 38 spl brainless blaster ammo using American Reloading pull downs. I know the dillon isn’t throwing bad charges.

Coated lead, man.

I’ve used Missouri Bullet Co. & SNS bullets in .401 180 gr with good accuracy, no bullet-related problems. They do great from 950 fps down to 775 fps. I’ve settled on about 840 fps from 4 in barrels, mixed brass. All fully supported chambers. I forget the OAL but it’s as long as allowable for reliable function in my guns. (Duh, right?)

I might go 165 gr next order to match my 165 gr carry ammo.

My barrels are standard rifling, (Sigs, Beretta) not polygonal like your pre-G5 Glocks. But im pretty sure coated is still okay in those.

I never messed with plated bullets and don’t plan to. I don’t buy them as loaded ammo, either. Too many accuracy issues across several calibers. Lead, coated lead, or true jacketed bullets for me.

I’ve reloaded many that look like that in my supported chambers. Been fine.

I reload mildly.

I loaded too much Titegroup/ max once…in .25 acp. I was lucky not to damage anything. Beretta made them strong.

Had some 50 gr FMJ over 1000 fps.

I like Titegroup alot! But it’s a light to medium load powder. The only other times ive gone max with it is .38 spl. +P fired from a .357 mag gun and .32 magnum “+p” (yea i know) in .327 magnum guns. Plenty of extra strength in those guns.

I ran the numbers on Everglades jacketed bullets yesterday, and I’d be at $0.25 per round for the first 2k with the caliber conversion… not even factoring in the powder and primers on hand. Not looking good there.

I’ll look at coated one more time today.

And I agree on the plated bullets. I’ve shot them with pretty good results, but I’m not risking it on this caliber.

Try HP38 and CFE-P.

I like these. CFE-P likes pressure and 80% to 100%. It’s a little slower burn and i find it can add recoil in some applications. It’s great in heavy for caliber uses like 180-187 gr .357 mag.

Thanks. I’ll snatch a pound if I come across it. We have plenty of faster powder.

Some say “coated with no lube”, and some say “coated”. What I’m I looking for in the glock barrel load?

I can vouch for CFE Pistol being a great powder for .40 & 9x19mm.

Bullets are either lead with a ring of lubricant, or coated.

The coating is the lube, to prevent leading.

Oh, for a Glock, coated!

Some coated bullets still have a “lube groove”, but with no lubricant.

Thanks, Guys. I’m inching closer to taking on this project.

Got a pound of CFE Pistol and ordered some 165 gr SNS Casting coated bullets.

The max load for jacketed bullets (6.8) is lower than the starting load for plated bullets(6.9). Any ideas where to start with this combo?
