Questions for VLTOR CASV Owners

(Don’t give me the canned “Search is your friend” response. Every time I search, I get a “try again in 29 seconds” error)

Just ordered a new upper with a CASV-M. Upper is a BCM Mid-length with standard FSB. Seemed like an interesting, extremely modular setup. I’ve always wanted a S.I.R., but I know better than to buy anything those clowns make.

The appeal to me was the option to rail-up only as big as the mounted-item’s footprint. I’m also pretty-stoked about the option of using standard mounts at oddball offsets around the “clock”.

Had a few questions for you folks who are currently rocking the CASV:

  1. What optic + mount + BUIS configurations are you using? I’m interested in a magnified optic for this setup, but I haven’t completely ruled out a 1X RDS. I’m currently leaning toward a Troy BUIS, and TA31H-G. Obviously, I’d like to keep my height-over-bore as low as possible. I also haven’t ruled out an Accupoint. I’m also thinking about a Matech iron, if it will fit behind the CASV’s upper-deck.

  2. Are there any particular quirks about the CASV? Do the rails stay mounted under voluminous fire? Periodic tightening?

  3. Does VLTOR offer additional rail-sections? Are any other manufacturers’ rail-sections compatible?

Me too. First it gives me a blank screen like a freeze up, then I get the try again error.

  1. aimpoint comp ML2 in LaRue low mount for lower 1/3 co-witness with irons. various rear BUIS - troy, GG&G, ARMS #40L. a matech will not fit.

  2. just use blue loctite on the screws and they should be fine. never had a rail loosen yet.

  3. contact vltor directly to inquire about additional rail sections. as far as i know, they’re proprietary to the CASV.

Cool deal. I was debating between a Troy and the Matech, but it’s looking like Troy is the way to go.

I’m pretty OCD about loctite on any peripherals being mounted. I’ll go ahead and goo the rails up as I install bolt-on items.

This is what I was thinking. After perusing their site, I couldn’t find any info on the additional rail pieces.

ARMS or Troy rear, whatever optic I’m using in a low mount.

Really can’t say enough good things about the CASV, and durability is definitely not a problem.
