Questions for First Bolt Gun

I want to get a Remington 700 for target shooting. I will reload for this and I want to shoot it out to 600 yards. Hunting is not really a priority for this gun.

It seems like the SPS Tactical gets a lot of love around here, but everyone admits that the stock sucks. Would it be better and cheaper for me in the long run to go straight to the 700P LTR?

I’m leaning very hard towards a .308, but I’m open to other calibers. What does everyone recommend for a newbie wanting to work up to 600 yards?

The LTR has a fluted barrel that is lighter than the SPS tactical.
I would suggest that if you want an off-the-shelf ready to shoot gun, get a 700p.
It has a decent HS stock and a full weight 26" barrel that will help you in the wind past 300yds.
