Questions about pouches

What are some good MOLLE-ready magazine pouches? I’ve looked at Blackhawk and they seem pretty good. I’ve looked at Condor, but they seem to have mixed to negative reviews at best. Any other good ones?

Also, what’s the consensus about double vs. triple mag pouches?

My two cents: Stay away from both Blackhawk and Condor. I’ve seen nothing good about them.

A trusted brands off the top of my head :
London Bridge Trading
Tyr Tactical
Tactical Tailor
ATS tactical
First Spear
Blue Force Gear

I’ve stayed away from triple due to bulk and difficulty I’ve had during mag changes. I’ve found magazine shingles, or open top magazines to be easier for me as well as double mag pouches.

I’ve had personal experience with Tactical Tailor while they make a lot of good products and have done multiple sew jobs for me I’ve had some hit or miss mag shingles from them.

Eagle Industries is often considered a quality brand as well.

Something to consider, there’s a lot of slightly used or unused ACU pattern gear coming on the market. People are ditching it for Multi-Cam. If you do not have to have gear that fits a particular color scheme, you can save a great deal of money.

Over the years I’ve purchased several pouches from OSOE (Original SOE). They are excellent.

What kind of weapon, M4? Do you have a chest rig picked out? How many mags do you want to carry? If it is just a few I would look at a Shingle type mag pouch.

It’s for an AR. Eagle looks pretty good, I might head in that direction.

For rifle mags, I have been VERY happy with my HSGI Tacos (and not just because I can load out for my AR or my M1A on the same belt). I imagine I would be just as happy with pistol tacos as well, but I already had a Tactical Tailor Magna pouch that has been fantastic for me.

How much retention are you looking for? Is it going on a belt or a PC?

I am a huge fan of the Tacos for their versatility.

Point Blank Rapid Response PC. I guess the retention isn’t a huge issue at the moment, so long as it holds onto the mags, doesn’t rattle much, and it’s going to fall out easily.

Like others have said, shingles are great. I use Tactical Tailor shingles and they work perfectly. I’ve also used the Eagle Industry double mag pouch (the issued one) and that’s pretty good too. Might want to check out Zulu’s M4 pouch, it seems to be a pretty good concept.

Definitely try to tailor it to your needs. For instance, I run 4 magazines on one side, so I could certainly replace my stacked shingles with the Zulu pouches. But on the other side I have a shingle with 2 grenades stacked on top of it, so I couldn’t replace it with a Zulu pouch. You may very well end up with a mix and there’s nothing wrong with that.

This plus Eagle, which are pretty easy to find cheap on ebay / EE as they’re issued to a lot of USMC and some high speed Army units. Avoid Blackhawk and especially Condor unless you’re slinging plastic BB’s

I have had good luck with Emdom and Esstac.

I like those Emdom pouches. They can either be flap retention or elastic cord retention. I don’t know if they can mount to MOLLE vests though.
