Questions about 300 BK and reliability

I am considering building a .300 bk upper.
I got taken for some magazines that I don’t consider reliable enough for 5.56 usage. Long story short, I put in on a large purchase of Lancer mags and the guy in charge of the purchase didn’t know what he was doing. I ended up with 20 E-Lander mags. I guess Lancer and E-Lander sounded alike…

Anyway, does the .300BK round feed better or worse than a 5.56 round into a rifle? Are there more or less feeding issues with the larger 30 cal. bullet? I am considering putting Magpul followers in the crappy mags and using them solely for 300BK.

Anecdotal at best but 200 rounds of factory and 400 reloads zero function issues. All I did was swap the barrel on a DPMS Sportical that wasn’t getting shot much, with the 16" CMMG 300 Blackout.

Bear in mind I only shoot supersonic velocities. Willing to bet the guys who are dabbling with sub-sonic may find themselves over-sprung and/or under-fueled.

Like this cartridge and gun combination. Getting shot more for sure.

The 300BLK is reliable out of USGI or PMAGS as long as cartridge dimensions are with certain limits, and the bullet profile is correct. Some mags run better than others with different COAL’s, and you may need to adjust. The cause for this is the rib in the front of the mag that guides the bullets. Also, bullet profile is VERY important. Some 30 cal bullets feed like crap, others run 100% than a mil-spec 5.56. Go to 300BLK forum for more info on this. One that sticks in my mind is the 110 gr Barnes blacktip bullet, it is purpose designed for the 300 BLK length and profile requirements.

Will it run with E-Lander mags? Nobody knows. Supersonic loads are much lenient regarding function than subsonics. Also make sure to run FULL mags, some function issues surface only at certain times, ie when the mag is almost completely empty or full.

I’ve run the following factory loads (about 800 rds total) in my 300 BO Daniel Defense Ambush:

Rem 115 gr
Hornady 110gr marked 300 Whisper
Rem 125 gr CTM
Atlanta Arms 125 gr Green tips (Nosler BT’s)

Those rounds have been tested without any failures so far in the following mags:

Lancer AWM 10 rd
Lancer AWM 20 rd
Lancer L5 20 rd.
BCM 30 rd.

Handloads have been more problematical, but as noted above, watch your bullet seating to magazine geometry to avoid potential problems.

I’ve never had any issue with 300BLK in Magpul Pmags. I have had issues with the Lancer L5 where you can actually cause a F2F when you press down on the mag in a prone position. This does not happen with the M2 Pmag. However, M3 has the same issue.

The M3 and Lancer mags have similar dimensions for wider weapon compatibility. This give is more wiggle room in the mag well and if pressed down, it will cause a F2F in my rifle.

What lower receiver do you have?

I have several Aero Precision lowers, and TM 80% (Cero forge) which was cut. I can recreate the F2F in all my lowers with the Lancers. You can see my 300BLK in FD in the 300 pic thread.

The E-Lander followers are nearly identical to the Gen M2 follower, so I can’t see you gaining anything from switching. In fact, they look 100% identical except for how the spring snaps underneath.

I have not had luck with my E-Landers and seating in my lowers, and I’m not shooting any of my remaining 300 BLK ammo until I have replacements in hand. That said, the Lehigh Defense subsonics loaded fine in an E-Lander when they wouldn’t load more than five in a PMAG without binding.

I feed my 300blk in pmags and usgi mags, both work great in my AAC Upper
