My safety is easy to flick from “safe” to “semi” however the reverse is not true. Going from “semi” to “safe” is more difficult. It requires me to adjust my grip a little bit to get a little more, I don’t know if this is the right word but ‘torque’. Also, the safety clicks into position solidly/positively if that matters.
Also another question. When the bolt is locked back to the rear should I be able to operate the safety?
Specs on the rifle:
-Noveske low pro recce upper complete from Noveske
-2nd run blemish lower
-Daniel Defense LPK
-Magpul MOE grip
-Magpul UBR
Also very relevant to the conversation, I assembled the lower, my first ever. It passes all function tests and has already been test fired (multiple mags with only 2 rounds to make sure it wasn’t going to double, triple, etc).
My question is: Is it normal for the safety to harder to operate one way or the other. And should the safety be able to function when the bolt is locked to the rear?
I had checked the machining of the selector before deciding that the pin would be the better choice. There’s a groove milled in the selector that forced the pin to travel further than it needed to go in either position. Now that the pin tip is shorter and not as steep an angle as it breaks the edge, it works much smoother - like a cam. It takes the same initial force to get the pin to climb the wall, but then it doesn’t require as much effort to get it to finally pop over the edge.
Mine’s not spongy in either position, and now I don’t have to reef on it to flip it back into safe.
Since my issue is the semi position being to hard I will try the procedure of filing down/rounding off the detent. I will probably get a new selector any way. I really wish I had known about the G&R LPK when I was buying my parts. I bought a Daniel Defense LPK for 70 and a MOE for 20. I could have saved 30 bucks. Oh well.
Does anyone know if I can buy just the safety selector from G&R?
Excellent. Thank you guys. By the way I put some wheel bearing grease in the indentation and runway for the detent. Although I view that as a temporary solution it is much smoother and consistent now. Excellent short term solution.
I’ll be ordering a G&R safety next time I get supplies.
