Ok, I did search and probably just missed it. Have a colt 6920 I purchased last Nov, really like the rifle. But after fingering a lmt on Sunday with the sopmod stock on it, I realized how I really don’t like the Moe stock on this rifle. I’m torn between the lmt and the enhanced b5. My question is do I need to replace the buffer tube if I get a new stock? Or are the holes in the buffer tube a universal size? Bang for my buck, which stock would you guys recommend? I don’t have money to throw around, but I don’t mind saving and buying once crying once either. Just want to make the proper purchase the first time.
This. I have the SOPMOD and love it. Any future rifles will have it, no question. And the B5 is a much better value than the LMT.
ETA: Yes, like TNW mentioned below, get the newer version with the QD socket. The first batch were too small for various reasons.

You’re good just changing the stock. I’d grab the B5. If it seems too tight on your buffer tube you can sand down the inside a bit. There are a few different B5 versions, so if you want QD keep an eye out for that.
Since you’re asking if you need to replace the RE tube, I’m assuming that you’re also unaware that there are two different size tubes, which in turn, requires the appropriate size stock.
I’m not even sure if the LMT or the B5 are offered in a commercial size but no matter what brand you decide to purchase, be mindful to order a “Milspec” size & not a “commercial” size stock.
Most quality AR’s come with a “Milspec” size RE tube, and your 6920 is one of them.

No one can tell you which buttstock to get any more than they can tell you what shoes to buy. So long as the stock is of good quality, buy the one you find to be the most comfortable. The adjustable stock that makes me the happiest is the Magpul CTR with the enhanced butt pad
There is nothing to see in regards to the stock. I am pretty sure it was already pointed out that B5 only makes the MILSPEC RE version. Your Colt (unless it has been altered) has a 1.14 inch MILSPEC extension. I have several B5 stocks, along with BCM and Magpul. You can’t go wrong with one.
Stickman, I wonder if he’s referring to the contract screwup that B5 did of the early SOPMODs (and those also didn’t have QD). Turned out they were a bit narrower than normal and folks on Ebay and everywhere else were selling them between $30-70. Besides the tight fit, there was nothing else wrong with the stock and some people sanded down the interior to make it work.
Now, if you were to buy a brand new B5, it won’t have that issue.
I currently only have B5 Bravo stocks. They are much better than the m4 stock or a magpul moe (only other stocks I have experience with) to me. I recommend them highly.
If I was doing a new build I might try a BCM gunfighter stock though.
