Question on ambi safety...

I just received a used LMT rifle that has an ambi safety on it. I plan to order a single sided safety for it but for the class I have this weekend is there any reason not to remove the RH lever and run it like that? It seems pretty solid, not like removing the RH lever from a 1911. Looks funny but will it run ok? I can’t stand the way my trigger finger hits the lever.

I do not care for the ambi safey as they hit my hand. I’d say remove it.

Remove it w/o worries, or modify it. Search is your friend:

I guess this didn’t hot link…

Thanks, I read that post. I didn’t see anything about removing the RH portion of an ambi safety. I just scanned it though.

You can remove the RH side lever without worry.

The selector is held in place by the detent, which is unaffected by what’s going on with the right hand side of the weapon.

If you compare an ambi-safety with a standard selector, there’s just some more machining that allows the right side lever and screw to engage it.

You could take it off and run it like that forever… no worries!

I was not a fan of the ambo safety until I started using guns with them installed. I especially like using an ambo safety on full auto ARs. I use my trigger finger and my thumb at the same time to go from full auto back to the safe position. We put a relief cut on the non production PDW selector to keep it from coming in contact with the trigger finger/hand. The ambo selector also gives a physical reminder of what position the weapon is in. Hand size has a big effect on this but I find that when in an actual shooting position my finger clears the selector. But as always : to each his own. I know this wasn’t the question but is is a easy thing to remove or try.
