Does anybody have any feedback on the overall level of satisfaction our guys have with these trucks? I am a layman, but IIRC several SF ruck teams and whatnot were operating with these vehicles almost from the start of operations in A’Stan and perhaps Iraq too. Have they performed well?
They are a little beat up but doing fine. I was just have a truck with a working radio (music). Parts are a little hard to come by. The Contrators we had were good and the LN Mechanics had some good connections to get us the things we needed. I had pics, but it looks like they didn’t make it back to the states.
It has been a few years 04 to be exact but they hold up well for what you put them through.
The Tacoms that 5th Group bought out in town at Fort Campbell and flew over have one major draw back they have gas engines.
The Highlux trucks we had where under powered that little deisel just didnt have the ass to get you up the ridgelines even in 4WD LO. You had to be a good driver to get them where you had to be.
Afghans can fix anything however
Diesel seems to make so much more sense. I assume they can run off the same fuel as the helicopters and generators etc. Just curious- do they cram onto the -47’s?
Any thoughts as to what the major wear items are/were?
Off topic, ICANHITHIMMAN might be the most interesting user name on this whole board. LOL
Glad you like the NAME.
We used desiel off the local economy but I assume JP8 would do just fine.

I would love to have a Hilux diesel. It would be perfect for my son when he turns 16 in 2011.
I had the Tacoma TRD. Tt was great off-road, traded for my Dodge Cummins so that I could pull a travel trailer, and I miss it.

are you on 56? Thanks for your service.
In Iraq during Desert Storm, during the cease fire, we had a group of Bedouins stop at our perimeter in search of gasoline. They saw our CUCV’s and the fact that they were made by Chevy, and thought they ran off gasoline.
They had a wad of American cash and were ready to pay. Only thing was, the CUCV’s are diesel and we fueled them with JP8. These fellows simply would not accept that for an answer. They insisted that CHEVY equaled GASOLINE.
I had to literally escort one of them over to a vehicle to show him proof that the CUCV did in fact run off diesel.
LOL-It was only then that they went on their way.
not on 56. Just taging along.
Besides being a huge Toyota fan some of those pictures are awesome! What a beautiful place (besides the war).
I got to say I loved it there the people and the food. WAR sux but I would do it again in a second!
good pics, by the way.
Awesome pics!
Just saw this topic. Found this link on a Toyo forum I was on after I got my '08 Taco. I saw the ones at Ft. Campbell back in '02-'03 before they went over.

I’m not trying to hijack this thread, but I really wish we had a better selection of diesels in this country. I think they make more sense than hybrids (I hope we can recycle all those old batteries when they wear out
). I’ve got a diesel in my pickup and if I were in the market for a car, I think I would look at the VW Jetta TDI.
I hate the thought of being so dependent on foreign oil.
