Can any Marines verify for me if the current A4 has the M4 barrel extension and feed ramp cuts in the upper receiver?
Thanks for the help.

I’m not sure of when my A4 was manufactured, but it seemed pretty new when I got it (it had all the rail covers, paint looked new, no scratches, …) less than a year ago, but it doesn’t have the M4 barrel extension and feed ramp cuts.
Roger that. Thanks for the input!

No they do not.
The only ones that may are those voodoo Colt M16A4s you hear about but never actually see ![]()
Be careful what you ask for. ![]()

Grant,
The last M16A4’s I saw all had rifle barrel extensions and flat top rifle uppers w/o feedramps. As a matter of fact when I was working at the Marine armory we had to keep the uppers separate from the M4 uppers because some people wouldn’t pay attention.
All A4 and A3 uppers I have ever dealt with did NOT have extended feed-ramps.
I was just a Corpsman, but the M16A4 I had for about a week did not have M4 feed ramps in either the extension or the receiver.
I am deployed right now and looking at an M16A4 and an M4A3 currently issued in the Marine Corps side by side. The M4 has the cuts in the upper and the M16 does not.
FWIW we had Colt M-16A4s in Basic Training at Ft Benning (Army) in 2004. They didn’t seem that old. I didn’t even know FN made ARs until I read about it here. I can’t remember about the feedramps.
Colt M4’s and FN M16’s here.
I highly doubt that.
I only meant a M4 Carbine with detachable carrying handle (flat top A3 upper), with safe, fire, and 3 round burst. We still have an M4A1 (full-auto version if I am incorrect again) pop up on occasion during weapons transfers, so please forgive me if I differentiate by means other than NSN when speaking of the weapon systems, it saves mistakes when determining quickly which model I am talking about at work.
E0190 1005-01-231-0973 CARBINE 5.56MM RIFLE XM4 is the specific model I am talking about for clarification not the E0195 1005013820953 CARBINE, 5.56 MILLIMETER or M4A1. If I caused any confusion by incorrectly labeling it something that is is not my apologies. From your short and informative statement I assume that I should be saying either M4 or M4A1 and nothing else as far as military variants because nothing further has been produced?
Bingo.
Figured it was simply a disconnect, did not want to linger on it, but nomenclature carries heavy implications when discussing .mil weapons.
So you all trying to order some 20 inch uppers or complete rifles from colt with a gi profile? I’m interested.
Not USMC but the 23&P shows different PNs for the M4 and A4 uppers.
Grant,
Here’s a couple of pictures of a Colt M-16A4 upper receiver (“C” and “AF” stamped) with a Colt 6551 government profile barrel.

Standard rifle feed ramps…

Semper Fi,
Just to reiterate as I see this come up quite a bit on other forums, no, they do not.
M16A4s do not have extended feedramps.
Why is this being questioned? Just curious.
