Question about zero after barrel and FSB removal?

The rifle is a CD Defense M4 LE. I removed the barrel, muzzel device, FSB, and installed a Omega X with related hardware. The take off and install went very smooth and the new DD nut was installed with in spec. The carbine was then test fired but the zero was off 5.5" right and 3.5" high at 50 yards with both the irons and Aimpoint. Is it normal to have a POI shift after barrel removal or did I do something wrong?

It is very common to see a zero shift after work to the barrel.

Thank you for the reply. I was told that there should be 0 POI shift but I did not see how it would be possible unless the parts were fitted to a much tighter tolorence and the torque value would be the same.

think about all the variables… first of all, you removed the front sight base/post and reinstalled them… you removed the barrel from the receiver (or close enough to removal)… you probably removed the rear sight, depending on your receiver block… you assuredly removed the aimpoint and it’s mount… you attached a new muzzle device… changed barrel nuts… floated the barrel… each of these things, all by themselves, cause POI shift. you did ALL of them.

so naturally, your POI shifted. recheck your zero a couplefew times throughout the next 500-1000 rounds, just to make sure something stupid didn’t happen when you were tightening the bbl nut, but it sounds normal so far.

Thank you. That two answers are exactly what I was looking for. I had to individual tell me there should be no POI shift and I did not see how there could not be. I am really not concerned that there will be any future problems with the zero or operation, but it will be fun to check anyway.

Exactly.

I’m a bit anal, if anything on my guns changes I don’t trust the ZERO. I always reconfirm the ZERO before expecting it to hit where I want.
