Question about stoed 1911

Hello all, I am new to 1911 and pistols in general. My question is, is ok to keep my 1911 cocked with a round in chamber for long periods of time? We use it for home defense and my wife is petite and has a hard time chambering a round. She can do it but obviously time is a factor if someone is breaking into your home. We go to the range couple times a month, wish we go more but our schedules are crazy sometimes. Thanks in advanced.

There is no firearm that I am aware of where leaving a round chambered will cause damage. Your gun will be fine.

My girlfriend has the same problem, I have been doing the same thing for years…it is fine

Wont hurt a thing, but I would recommend keeping it in a holster. Not a real good idea to leave a loaded gun just laying in your sock drawer.

There is nothing better than condition 1 for a 1911 that is meant to be used at any given time.

+1 keeping it in a holster.

Thanks for the replies. Always stays in a holster unless cleaning or shooting.

I have mentioned this before, I like to keep a spare pistol in a holster mounted on the back of the headboard to the bed.

I have done this for about 12 years. I always know where it is, dont need to open a drawer and kids (usually) arent messing around behind the headboard

I have seen different setups for your matress or a headboard but we don’t have any kids so bedside table is fine for us. She has the 1911 on her side and I have our sig p220 on mine. she likes the 1911 trigger better and shoots better with it as well. Deep down I wish I had the 1911 though.

Sounds like an excuse to buy another.

bought a WC cqb 2 years ago, ever since its arrived in my hands, its had a round in chamber, locked, cocked, rdy to rock on safe ever since its 1st initial arrival and of course after detailed stripping and cleaning from prev. owner

Condition 1, locked and cocked. preferably out of reach of children
