Im looking into getting a larue myself, i searched and found these threads. Im looking for a precision rifle as well in 7.62 but im stuck between the PredatAR and the OBR. Like i said, i plan on using this for long range 300-1000yrds…the reason im stuck between the 2 is the price, but correct me if im wrong, whAt im getting out of these threads is the PredatAR is just as accurate as the OBR? Is that true or is it just worth it to get the OBR?
Im comparing the obr 20" with the predatar 18"
Oh and the majority of my shooting will b 300-500 yrds
18" will do just fine for that yardage.
Barrel length doesn’t always dictate long range accuracy, only higher velocity…sometimes the shorter more rigid barrels prove more accurate.
If you want accuracy for the 1st shot it really doesn’t matter. Other than that there is no free lunch. I’ve shot precision long range rifles for many years and it’s disingenuous at best for some people here to state that the PredatAR is just as accurate as the OBR. If you want to bang away for long strings get an OBR. I have accurate .308 bolt rifles so I went with a PredatAR. With the cost and wait time that I’m seeing now I’m considering selling but have’nt made my decision as of yet. Keep this in mind, if you could get the accuracy out of slender barrel profiles don’t you think that military, law enforcement, varmint hunters, and long range shooters would use them? That’s a clue.
Be Prepared for a 2+ year wait unless you want to pay the $5K+ they are currently selling for. Even when prices come back down, they will command a premium beacuse of the long wait.
Better off getting a GAP10 Built or JP308.
