My M4 for example has a 1/7 twist, so it handles a certain grain bullet better than others.
Does an AK function the same? So far I’ve been shooting 124gr. bullets… if I buy 154gr. it won’t dramatically change how the barrel handles it, will it? And send a flyer off into left field. Or does it even matter since it’s an AK?
And spire-point bullets are generally more accurate that FMJ’s, right?
I take it you are talking about 7.62x39. Normal twist is IIRC 1/240mm, and that will stabilise all reasonable bullets up to 200grs. Bullet shape is far more forgiving than in 5.56.
If you want optimal accuracy with 7.62x39, you’ll need .311 (not .308) diameter bullets. For optimal accuracy you need a quality bullet manufacturer. Maufacturer will make a bigger difference than the bullet type. Good bullets can be found e.g. from Lapua.
Nothing in an AK is built for precision, especially factory steel cased commie ammunition. I’ve seen one or two attempts at making ‘precision’ AKs, and they all quietly slink off into the darkness, as the point of diminishing return is hit almost immediately.
