Hello Everyone, This will be my first post here So first off I just wanted to say hello and that I have really enjoyed reading all the material you guys have posted. My question is on my Bushmaster bolt I purchased a few months ago I noticed that the letters CM were stamped into the bolt. To my understanding thats the markings of Colt/Martin Marietta is that correct?
Bushmaster bolts are not made by Colt. A lot of B.M. bolt owner’s wish that they were though.
C.M., I am guessing Chrome Moly, not Colt. M.H.O.
colt bolts would be something like MPx
OK, today i got a Bravo Co bolt carrier group in the mail. The bolt is stamped CM then on top of the stamp it is laser etched MP. Can someone enlighten me and save me a phone call?
opps, sorry for the highjack evilmonkey…
My Colt bolts all have either “MPC” “MPFC” “MPXC” etc
My Bushy and Stag have no markings.
My BCM has “MP”
I thought it was a CMT marking, leaving off the T.
Its alright 556 I would be confused to if my BCM bolt had the same markings on it.
My other Bushmaster doesn’t have any markings on it so I figured maybe Bushmaster is finally trying to improve there quality to what it was like back in the day! The only reason I bought the bolt from BM was because i had a 50$ gift certificate from BM and its only going to be used as backup on one of my riflles. I was just curious to know in case it might actuallly be a good bolt that I could use on one of my serious guns?
It’s probably a CMT bolt.
Look HERE under “Forge Marks”
CM = Colt / Martin Marietta
We’re talking about bolts, though.
I’ve sent an email to Bushmaster. We’ll see what they say if they reply.
Thanks skintop for sending an email out! I was searching online about the about the bolt and I found a post from Arfcom about markings on bolts, upper recievers, and lower recievers. The guy ordered a bolt for his bushmaster that he was rebuiling from bushmaster . The bolt he ordered had the same markings and that it was a CMT/Stag bolt. This actually makes me feel a lot better if it is actually true considering I always thought bushmaster bolts were not worth a crap! So if it actually is a CMT bolt does that mean its MPI’d?
Summary of the response(s) from Bushmaster to inquries on their “CM” bolt:
…When our machine shop can’t keep up with demand we do sublet items…
…The raw material is mag particle inspected…
…Sorry, it is company policy not to confirm or deny vendors…
mine is still slightly magnetic.even after getting a chrome coating at ionbond.
well the “CM” bolt that is.
