Quality stock source for 870

Hello everyone. I recently bought a used 870 Wingmaster Police model made in '81. It’s in good hardly used condition. Has the rack wear mark on the barrel where it was carried around in a cruiser. I’ve given it a good once over and corrected any minor difficiencies I’ve found. I am thinking of replacing the stocks with synthetics, but don’t know much about who makes qulity, sturdy stocks that can be used if needed for fighting. I do not like folding stocks or pistol grips on shotguns. Any suggestions.

Hogue or Speedfeed (the one without the shell holders). Brownells sell both of them.

As DBR stated, Hogue or Speed Feed.

Go with the “Youth” or “Body Armor” length buttstocks, they have about a 1" shorter LOP and that really helps in handling.

My 870 Police with a Speed Feed “youth” stock.

How do you like the Vickers sling?
(I am considering a new short synthetic stock and a Vickers sling for my 870)

Vickers sling is outstanding, but I need to move the rear attachment back to the rear of the buttstock.

Speed feed youth model. With no shell holder

What is the issue with the current attachment point?
What method are you going to use to attach the sling to the rear of the stock?

Thanks for the replies. Templar, are you planning on mounting the sling on the side of the stock or on the bottom swivel?

I’ll be getting a sling adapter for the rear of the buttstock which will allow me to mount it attaching to the left side vs. the bottom swivel.

I have two issues with mounting it at the front of the buttstock.

  1. The most serious…when transitioning to the left shoulder (I’m right handed), the position of the sling there prevented a spent shell from ejecting, tying up the gun. This happened twice in a shoot house at Rob Haught’s shotgun class.

  2. When slung and and without support from my hands, the shotgun would move on me more than I liked, and the buttstock would swing away from my body.

Please keep us updated on which adapter you opt to use, and how it works for you.

Here’s a thread you guys should look through, the AAR from the Rob Haught class this past year.

Some good pics of the Hogue short stock too.

I’ll trade you my Remington Synthetic for your wood set…PM if interested.

What kind of Remington syn stock do you have?

Just like the one posted by Templar. Forend too. I’m pretty sure they’re made by Speedfeed.

PM sent yesterday. Interested in that trade.

Oh shoot, he beat me too it. All’s fair…
