Have you looked at the Meopta ZD?
If you shoot a lot, stay in practice, are proficient, and can afford it I’d say spend (a lot of) your money on a variable.
If not and you want simplicity and rugged performance for the cost I’d recommend an ACOG.
Hard to beat something that’s relatively fast and clear, private-proof, has no moving parts, and is nearly as durable as a bowling ball.
ACOG’s are slower for most people up close. They are an option when weight must be kept lower but for most people I think they are better off with a good 1-x power optic in their price range. I sold all my ACOGS a while back.

In my personal experiences, the TA33 is the solution. It is lightweight, compact, has great eye relief, and an easy to use BDC. Like the other ACOGs, it is always on, auto adjusts, and has a bunch of reticle options.
Go TA33 and you will NOT be disappointed.

Are there any others? I have been looking for a sub $1000 1-4 to keep me from dropping the coin on a Mark 6 1-6 TMR-D, and so far I think this is the only one I’ve found.
I’d use a 1x6 as a minimum. Had several NF, Shit & Bendover 1x4’s that were excellent BUT did not perform @ intermediate ranges that a 16’ barrel is capable of. Been using 2 NF 2.5x10x24’s & recently picked up US Optics 1x8x27 that has been outstanding. While it does cause financial pain, it’s only temporary for the piece of mind & ease of engagements w/ using those optics. I used ACOG’s from their inception & extensively in Trashcanistan starting in 02’. Variable is the only way to fly. EVOLVE. Target ID better, less fatigue on optic nerve for long periods behind glass in OP/LP/Overwatch positions etc. Eye relief arguments pissing match’s are moot & weak at best.
I’ll put some pics up later of NF & USO kit I’m running w/ pics of Optics on scales showing REAL weights not the internet fluff BS. Building a NEMO Omen now that has my time occupied etc.

Look forward to it.![]()
Thanks, you are probably right. Compromising on what I want usually just leads to me having to buy twice anyway.
