I was wondering if any of you guys know how to put a paddle type release on a HK91? How hard is it? Can I do it myself?
Its easy, I did a big write up over on HKpro.com about it. I cant find it, I think its gone by now. I did my PTR91 in about an hour and it was legal…
Was there a lot of cutting involved? Where did you find a paddle to fit? Did you make your own?
Theres some minor filing (some rifles dont even need that) and you drill one hole in the lower shelf. Dont drill through all the way, then you have made a machine gun by ATFs rules. I dont remember who i got the paddle kit from. I did a bunch of googling I know that. I got a “kit” with the semi auto bushing. You can use a G3 lower to locate the pin hole or I just measured everything and drilled that way. Theres two guys at HKpro that do them for $100 including parts if you dont want to try it yourself…
Keep in mind that once you do that, you no longer have an original rifle. No biggie on a clone, but you might want to think about it for a factory gun.
You can also go with a Tac Latch, does the same thing but installs with no modification to the host firearm.
I don’t mind. I just really want an authentic paddle release like the g3. I just someone to show me and I could probably get it done
OK, just be real careful drilling. If you go all the way through (easy to do on a stamped receiver) you now have an illegal machine gun and have to destroy it. ATF doesn’t allow you to just weld the hole back up.
Well kind of. First the shelf is not stamped stell and is pretty thick. Find yourself a paddle mag kit with the semi auto bushing and if you can use a drill press your pretty much GTG. I can talk to yuo about it if you want, PM and I can get you my phone number…
