The Stribog’s blow back is bad enough. AR blowback is just as bad and an investment in something I’ll be bored with after a couple of range trips.
They have made a PS90 FRT which by the looks of sales and out of stock notices seems the pretty popular item now. With that weapon or an AR57 version, you could easily put most or all rounds on target depending on distance.
Years back I was kicking around the idea of an AR57, but I read the bolt bounce was so awful it would make any full autoish fire problematic.

I put a super safety and 3 round CARL in my defensive rifle. One can leave it on semi auto of one chooses.
No sense limiting yourself if you need to engage in a neighborhood situation.
I think it’s a no-brainer to have the option.
The reliability is my first concern. I know little about these things, but like I posted, the guy who brought one out seemed to get some hammer down on live round stoppages.

I had one for a while. When I was test firing it after putting it together I thought it was doubling but everything else was fine, it was smooth as butter. I had rapid fired it while it doubled and I found out by counting the brass on the ground and having my wife listen.
Not full auto strings but my only experience. If I’m remembering right I had put the disconnector spring in backwards.

Hammer down on a live round is a very common occurrence. Of course the videos on IG will never show someone cursing their carbine and pimp slapping it like the Shogun of Harlem. Its entirely possible that the newer ones are all cute and cuddly, but they aren’t reliable except for when you are hunting dirt clods.
To the topic of the thread, meaning using them for defensive purposes… dudes who want to take their money wasting, unreliable toys will be able to LARP a bunch of reasons why it’s so perfect and awesome for home defense.
Let’s think about it. Have you EVER read of anyone putting in a FRT trigger and telling everyone, “ My PSA is cured now it suddenly runs perfect”? Nope, you sure haven’t. If we take the bottom feeders out of the mix, have you ever heard anyone say their Colt or BCM runs so much better now that they finger it all the time with their FRTs? Nope, none of us have ever heard that either.
Since it doesn’t make it MORE reliable, and they tend to induce feed malfunctions and failure to fire with hammer down malfunctions…. You can see where I’m going.
However, we haven’t touched on the most important part, which is the ability to mow down your foes like an avenging archangel….. right? Nope, you are firing a weapon which by its nature is not only less reliable, but is also harder to control. I know the macho butt pirates will want to jump in and loudly proclaim that I just haven’t fired them enough, or that I don’t have enough trigger time on FA.
I was once called in to the civilian PD range, and told my duties for the day were to assist a special mission unit. The range sgt then asked me if I was current on belted qualifications, which I was through the reserves. He sent me to one of our distant ranges to act as a range master, and assist the unit in whatever they asked for. Their NCOIC told me that he had 12 -15 beltfeds online, and they needed to fire 11,000 rounds through each of them, and he didn’t have the manpower to do it, so my Sgt volunteered me (best sgt ever). So I worked shooting beltfeds all day, while being paid overtime.
Add in my time in service carrying belted 308 hate in the Iraq, and yeah, I’ve fired my fair share, and the share of most other people. I’ve been part of units that it wasn’t a matter of passing quals, it was a matter of you having to shoot expert every single time. My PD range sgt was of a similar mindset.
Anyway, if you are still reading this, pseudo full auto with an unreliable weapon is no way to go through life. It’s fun, it’s expensive, and the actual need for it is so small you could write it on the head of a pen.
Lastly, and this is the part certain dudes will hate. If for some ungodly reason, people are kicking down your door, so you drool like a tard on a drum set and let loose…. Think about the aftermath. How many hits do you score on moving targets who are aggressive against you while you stroke your trigger and pray you can make it rain. How many of those misses go through the doors, walls and bad guys? Where do you think they land?
I’ve had to listen to an IAD/ rat squad member lecturing that every bullet you fire has your name on it, and you are accountable, and his list of crap when on and on. Not only couldn’t this turd pass a qual, but he couldn’t smoke a cigar if it was lit for him, never mind smoke a fool.
I know this was a lot of reading, and much of it is meant with humor, but the truth is, there are better options. Not just if you are having to stand in front of a jury, but in general. Leave the fun guns for playing, but please make sure you are squared away with proper weapons and ammo. The vast majority of studs in civilian land are not anywhere near as good of shoots under pressure as they think they are. Nor are they capable of creating a repeat performance on demand.

FRT in 9mm AR or MP5 clone great fun, and the difference in price between a NFA gun and a FRT gun can be spent on ammo.
But if we didn’t use the happy switch when we were hitting terrorist safe houses I don’t need one to defend my house.

Also worth noting that LE have a lot of legal protections Joe Average will not, especially in an urban/suburban area. Look how the prosecutors gleefully jerked off while trying to railroad Zimmermann, Rittenhouse, the McCloskeys…
So this chair borne Keyboard Komnando is in the school of “reliability, controllability, accuracy” rather than “volume of fire” because only hits count.

I don’t have on installed in any of my rifles, but lets look at it logically. If it is selectable, you can leave it on semi only and have a zero reliability tradeoff. Zero. Will you ever need it in a defensive situation? Probably not. But if you can add a fun switch while not affecting reliability in a defensive situation, there is no downside to it.
I was a good assessment of the FRT faggotry in my opinion. I have limited experience seeing them, and have never fired one myself. But like I posted earlier. Even real full auto gets old on a 5.56 gun quickly.

I’ve only ever seen one LE full auto video/shooting. And they were SWAT using MP5s on some fat redneck with a shotgun in the South.
Not sure where this perception of LE running a lot of machine guns came from, but I’ve not seen it.
I did a Google search “FRT problems” and got 18 gazillion search results. That’s not the type of “if” I would add to anything for defensive purposes. Recreational use, sure.

Never said they did run full auto regularly, if memory serves even the 1033 loaners have to be limited to semi-only. Just noting that their legal environment is relatively less unforgiving than ours. Mas Ayoob has long said “expect to have to account for every round you fire” too.
Yes, in FRT mode, there might be problems. Most look like initial tuning, which usually requires an H2 or H3 buffer. In semi only mode, there are zero problems…because the FRT isn’t being used. Being on a defensive weapon is irrelevant if using semi-only.
I’m not saying people should get it or not get it. I’m looking at it logically…that’s it.

FRT Semi Auto Not Consistent
Installed a DTT FRT trigger on my MPX K and noticed that sometimes it will go on FRT mode and let off a few extra rounds when in semi auto position. Wondering if anyone has been experiencing this issue and how you have solved for it?
I have the same issue, i also got the spring kit but i have yet to install it and see if it resolved the issue. From others, sounds like it will.
I’m also going through the same thing. Frt works fine semi will work for about 3 rounds then a burst. Running Lithium with ILWT 4 inch barrel with adjustable gas block springs from Geissele.
Did anyone figure it out? Im running mpx 8in with ddt and midnight machine trip same problem semi sometimes pops off extra round or 2

No, it got worse actually. Now it only does force resets on semi lol
