Purchasing Dilemma?

Hello all, I am new to the forum and would appreciate some advice. I was recommended to purchase a POF-415 (.223) carbine with its gas piston operating system as my first carbine. I subsequently have heard of some people having problems with theirs and have also been recommended to purchase a Colt AR 6920. I plan on using it for home defense, target shooting, etc so want something versatile, reliable and easy to maintain. Thoughts , suggestions and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Get the 6920.

The 6920 would be a good choice. However, I am a bigger fan of the midlength gas system over the carbine gas system and am very happy with BCM products.

I’d suggest you read around the forum some more. You’ll find a lot of the same brands coming up regularly.

In any case, I’m a fan of the BCM midlengths personally, but you can’t really go wrong with any of the big names.

I’m a pretty big believer that everyone’s first AR should be a 6920 or one of the new 6720s from Clyde.

I wouldn’t buy a piston, and you couldn’t give me a POF for free.

When you absolutely, positively, cannot make up your mind about what first AR you want, buy a Colt 6920, BCM M4, or DD XV. You cannot go wrong with any of these.

Great advice - as per. I’d jump on the middy bandwagon as well and look into a BCM, DD, Noveske, etc…

6920, or at least go to Rob’s chart and follow the Yellow Brick road
