Pungo range, some changes

I was down there yesterday and saw some work being done. Al Clark(co founder of Blackwater) is starting a new venture(C2 Shooting Solutions) with A&P and offering training classes there. I don’t know the details on the pricing, course duration, etc. I believe there will be 1-5 day classes.

There may be some range improvments done to assist with the classes and I hope that some of the equipment can be left out, such as steel, etc. The target stations are supposed to be changed so they hang from the baffles, don’t know details.

As I understand, there will be areas blocked while classes are in session, hopefully they work out a schedule so members aren’t left out with minimal places to shoot.

At the very least, the range should be looking alot better soon with the possibility of more product for sale. They now have a Surefire display and the prices are really good, for instance a G2 is 29.

I’m glad to hear they are making more improvements and it’s great to hear we might have some more local training opportunities!

However, I’m still disappointed that John left.

Yes!!!

It would be a pleasure to take a carbine/pistol class that was local, my schedule is very tight. That would be nice to learn a few new things.

I’m a little disappointed to see more and more of the A&P gunshop “Experts” running the range.

These are the same A&P employees that I’ve seen make a complete ass of themselves many times.

For example:

  • Bragging about their 2-3 inch group at 25 yards. (Off a rest)
  • Shooting a flat-top AR with no sights or optics on the fifty yard range
  • Always seem to be “Going to Iraq” soon.
  • Giving some piss poor advice to new shooters
  • Never actually checking the range so morons continue to mess things up for the rest of us.

I watched one of them “Help” a guy a few months ago. The range customer commented that his 1911’s sights were “off” during the “Range cold in two minutes” warning. An A&P employee was running around all day as the “Expert shooter” giving advice down the line (Dressed in chocolate chip desert camo pants, black Oakley boots, Wiley-X glasses, and a black A&P t-shirt). He proceeded to take the 1911 and shoot a full ten round mag at the 25-yard steel resulting in a whopping one hit. We all know those 25-yard steel plates are fairly large. He proceeds to set the pistol down and then proclaims the sights “Perfect”. I had to crack a smile.

IMO – I’m sure the sights were fine, it was just funny to see an “Expert Shooter” who could not hit water if he fell out of a boat. I pity the poor guys who actually listen to that moron at the Hampton A&P store.

Dinger, To my knowledge, the A&P employees aren’t teaching these. I see it mainly as a mutual range improvement.

10-4.

My comment was more of a soapbox rant about the A&P guys.

IMO- I prefer the old guy who has been running it for years. Even though I can never seem to remember his name.

The range could certainly do with some more up-keep and improvements so this is good news either way.
