Pump or Semi?

In a worst case scenario you wake in the middle of the night sick as a dog with 1 hand still asleep and your foot in a bucket of puke…

Which would be/is the better of the 2 for HD?

I voted semi… For my AR…

This is the shotgun subsection…

OP, it depends on your budget. If you can afford a top of the line semi, definitely go for it. If you’re not going to spend the money on one that has a proven track record, go with a pump. It’s a lot cheaper to buy a flawless pump than a flawless semi.

I like pump , but I got a semi auto for HD for my wife. I was worried she might short stroke a pump in a need it situation.

If you pump a shotgun w/ a numb hand, do you call it “the stranger?”

I voted pump because you gan get a good reliable one that won’t break the bank.

Pump-Action

Based on preference after years of shooting both.

Get the pump, it will fire and cycle anything you can fit in the chamber. Even my top of the line Benelli is finicky about what it will cycle.

ummm… is it just me or has no one actually read the damn question…one hand is asleep… meaning you only have 1 hand to work the weapon… obviously that lends its self only to a semi-auto… or doing some type of half-arthritic cerebral palsy type of maneuver to rack the slide with one hand by dragging or pushing it against something

and if you plan to pump with the yet still asleep hand… the fact that it is indeed still asleep is moot and thus has no bearing on this scenario and shouldn’t even be mentioned… personally I am assuming the hand is unusable…

Unless he keeps the shotgun stored in condition 0, he will have trouble getting a round ready with a pump or a semi.

I have a Mossberg 930spx and I find it to be a very reasonably priced, very reliable semi auto. I would recommend it.

Voted and then read the question. Oh well…

I still prefer pump-action above all due to its simplicity and robustness.

Read the question, but interpreted it broadly instead of narrowly. That is, I took him to mean that you are not as on your game as you would be if you weren’t sick as a dog, hungover, or suffering some other malady. In going with just the instance mentioned, why even put the question to us? I agree it’s obvious a semi-auto is better for that person. However, manipulating a pump is a gross motor skill and even if you aren’t in your prime you can still work it.

That and I’ve watched enough movies to know you can work a pump shotgun one handed although I prefer the lever action move from Terminator.

I voted semi. I love my pump 870, but if I had a choice: Benelli M-Anything. Just don’t let the wife know how much they cost…

That’s one way of putting it. After add ons and ammo it adds up.

I knew something like this would happen but couldn’t remember the proper name

Yeah, I was thinking I’d give some reduced recoil a try and have heard its picky w/semi’s.

The whole deal w/the numb hand was I overheard a guy trying to sell a revolver and the main attraction was if you limp wrist it it won’t jam on you like an auto. I thought you could parallel it w/the short stroke or some sort of malfunction w/the semi.

since the hand being numb is of no relevance what so ever, I think he forgot to include the fact that it is a Tuesday night and you are wearing a plaid shirt in the original question.

It really depends on who made the Auto (as they are not all created equal).

Pump for me,LOVE my 590A1!Still needs a light and sling though.

Vicker’s padded is the way to go. It’s an amazing sling for a shotgun.
