Rifle Match this Sunday, 9/28/08
As always:
-setup at 0645 (they give you a discount on the match fee if you help set up),
-walk thru at 0945 (this is where they explain the courses of fire);
-cost is $15.00;
-use the blue lock for access to the range… gate combo for the blue lock: (2506), Please lock this lock back into a series so other users of the range with their own locks can come and go;
-most shooters can complete the 3 stage match with 120 rounds or less.
Come and celebrate your opportunity to shoot military style rifles, at distance, on reactive targets, in an action format, with some of the most knowledgeable shooters in the region, at the foot of Pikes Peak.
The weather promises to be mild and the match will last most of the day. A long match is a blessing! Can I get an Amen?

BAD NEWS FOLLOWS - GOT THIS VIA EMAIL:
After the match on Sunday, October 26, 2008 we will NO LONGER be holding long gun matches at Pueblo West Sportsmans Association.
The burden of putting on the events has gotten to be a little too much for the match directors. For those of you who don’t know, Hoser got that whole ball rolling several years back.
When Hoser had to deploy we filled in. It was my hope Hoser would be able to get back in the driver’s seat, but he advised me that wasn’t possible at this time.
The equipment used in the matches is the property of the Pikes Peak Practical Shooters and that is where it will be returned, so if someone is ambitious they might consider…
Match Announcement
This Sunday, October 26, 2008 we will have one more match. In an effort to make things simple for setup and teardown, we will have a RIFLE Match.
This Sunday’s rifle match will be in the same format with a little higher round count on the Long Range and Mid-Range stages. The weather looks good for Pueblo West, a perfect day for Worship.
Rifle Match for Sunday:
-cost for everyone will be $3.00 (surcharge to pay the Pueblo West Sportsman’s Association);
-an average shooter should be able to get by with 140 rounds (40est+40est+30);
set-up about 6:45am;
walk through about 9:30am;
use the BLUE lock (combo - 2506) and PLEASE lock this lock back into a series with the other locks on the chain so the participants in the other events can come and go.

Good news…the show will go on…got the following info via email:
Here is what is planned for the 2009 Pueblo Rifle Matches. Some changes, lots of the same.
I am the Match Director (again) and Justin Oxxx is the Assistant Match Director. Mike, Chuck, and George have all stepped up to help us out and make the matches happen. Without these four guys, Oct 2008 would have been the last Pueblo West Rifle Match. The IPSC club is still the main club and we are just using their stuff. Like my match staff, without Lizard, it could not and would not happen. Please be sure to say thanks.
In a nutshell the three stage format of Long Range, Medium Range and Standards will stay. Open, Tactical and He-Man are the divisions.
Time plus scoring will be used. When it comes to paper targets, Deltas do not count. Look for a little more paper now and again, but it will all be close up stuff. No paper past 35-50 yards. Again, D hits on paper don’t count and are misses. Two hits anywhere else is good.
Round counts will be no more than 30-ish per stage. Total minimum round count should not exceed 100. The shooting will still be hard, so bring extra ammo.
Standards will still be 70 seconds, fixed time, on MGM Flash Targets. 5 shots prone at 200 yards. 5 shots other than prone (kneel, sit, squat) at 175 yards. 5 shots standing at 150 yards. The fourth string will be all three positions with mandatory reloads between each, just like now. However slings, bi-pods, mono-podding, ect are allowed in sitting and prone. Standing is still done the old fashioned way.
The long range and medium range stage will have more shooting positions but fewer targets downrange. This will hopefully make things easier on the spotters, RO and the shooter. The LaRue target will be at most matches as will the pepper poppers with flash-bulbs.
The Sept match will be the annual AK vs. AR match.
Every once in a while there may be a bolt gun side match.
There will be no shotgun matches at all. It just takes more help and time than we have to put on a quality shotgun match.
Justin and I are open to suggestions. After all, it is your match. You pay the match fee. We just set it up.
Updates, news and stuff like it can be found at: http://www.co-ar15.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=114
Lastly, thanks to Eddie, Vicki, Jeff and Tom for keeping it going these past years.
See you there.
Hoser
Thanks for keeping it going Hoser!!!

Jeff
Pics from last week’s match…first match of the season…(4th Sunday of every month at the Pueblo West Sportsmans Association range):
Targets that you’ll typically see at ranges from 50 yards out to around 400 yards (along with LaRue targets, steel pepper poppers, 10" round gongs, etc):

Every match is an opportunity to learn something about yourself as a shooter and about the guns / gear / optics that you are running.
Hope to see some of you at next month’s match!

Thanks for the info…
Roger that.

Match this coming Sunday.
Just received this via email:
Just like always, the 4th Sunday means rifle shooting in Pueblo.
Plan on no less than 3 stages and 100 rounds. The 425 yard berm will be set up with flashers, MGM Flash Targets, and the Dreaded LaRue. The 300 yard berm will have some up close paper and MGM Flash targets out to 300. And the 200 yard standards will be there as well.
As far as match staff it is down to Justin and I. Chris and Craig should be there to help with set-up, but any way you look at it we are a skeleton crew. Please come out and help. Without help, the matches will go away. Just ask the IDPA shooters that thought I was joking about pulling the plug on matches…

Hope to see some photos fro the match;)

Just got this via email (match this coming Sunday):
This Sunday there will be yet another rifle match in Pueblo. We will be sticking with the 3 stage format of one long range (400 yards) stage, one medium range (300 yards) stage and of course the dreaded standards.
In addition to all that Justin has talked me into a rimfire side match. We might as well put all that Sportsmans Team Challenge steel to use… Plan on 2-6 inch plates out to 125 yards and maybe some bonus 1 inch plates at 50 or so yards. There will be 3 divisions. Tactical using 10 round mags. Open using 10 round plus mags and Manual Operated using whatever capacity mags/tubes you want. Optics allowed in any division. No 22 mags or 17 anything. Just good old fashioned 22 long rifle. No hyper velocity ammo like Stingers/Yellow Jackets/Velicitors ect. High velocity ammo is fine. So dust off that 10/22 or AR-15 conversion and come play.
Dont forget Sept is the annual AK vs AR match.
Good luck to everyone that is headed to DPMS.
We are going to be short on set-up help again this month, so please try to come out early. Hope to see you guys Sunday.

Annual AK vs. AR Match - This Sunday!!!
Got the following via email:
Everything is set to go for this Sundays match.
-If you are shooting an AK and an AR, it is two matches for one price.
-Steel core and all that commie junk ammo is fine for just this match and only this match. Dont bring this ammo to any of the other rifle matches, please…
-Set-up starts around 7:00 and the match will start around 10:00. Hope to see you this weekend.
Unfortunatley I’ll be in a 2 day LMS Defense Carbine course on range #2 on Sunday, so I’ll miss this match. Hope you guys have a good time, and I hope someone takes pics!!!
I’m out with a broken wrist for 3 more weeks.
Have fun at the AR/AK match. It always provides some interesting lessons.
I really enjoy these matches as well.
If I was in the area, would be a great one to go to.
Got the following email about this Sunday’s match:
“Everything is set for this weekends match. Hope to see you there. This will be the last rifle match of 2009. Check your email before you leave the house just in case there is a weather cancel.”
Is there an email list I can get on? Looking good for this weekend. Are you going to do the 22 side match?
