I will be assembling the final components of my build in the next couple weeks (once they arrive) and I wanted to pose this question before taking the rifle out for the first time. The barrel is a 16" Noveske N4 Light Recce with a pinned Switchblock, and the receiver end of the gas tube is sealed/plugged with some sort of white substance. I assume this is to keep packing peanuts, cardboard fibers, and other random things from getting into the gas tube during shipping. My question is how do you remove it? I don’t really want to poke it with anything and risk pushing it farther into the gas tube, but I’m worried shooting it this way will blow whatever it its into the gas key/carrier on the first shot and clog it. Ideas? I’m sure someone must have dealt with this before if this is how Noveske ships their barrels. Thanks in advance!
I have no idea if its supposed to be there or not but I would use compressed air to dislodge it. From the muzzle end.
Why don’t you try asking Noveske? I’ve heard some people say it’s taken days to hear back from them but the one time I contacted them it only took 20 minutes.
Yep, stick the bolt in the barrel extension and use a rubber tip on a compressed air nozzle. Make sure the switchblock is open.
I would do the reverse. Slip a 3" piece close fitting hose over the muzzle end past the gas hole in the tube. Secure it with a hose clamp. Give it a shot while pointed in a safe direction. It’s probably no more than a fuzz bunny or small bead of Styrofoam.
I wonder what would happen if he just, you know, shot it?
I fail to see how this is Technical and not simply common sense.
