Should one camo his weapon in relation to his natural habitat? Or should he just pick a color scheme that best breaks up the outline of the gun? I’m trying to sort this out before I buy furniture for my new middy. For what it’s worth, I live in South Louisiana, but I’m not out in the woods too often.
just pick a scheme to break up the outline. the best way to do this without painting your weapon is to use colored parts. ie: fde colored grip, stock, rail covers.
btw…i think painting your AR is stupid unless you’re an operator doing your thang in a hostile environment.

I would ask what activity do you plan on engaging in where a camouflaged rifle would benefit you? If you can answer that then I think the answer to your original question will sort itself out.

This has always been a nagging concern for me. I need camouflage that will blend in with gravel, cardboard silhouettes, red Georgia clay, steel plates, and grass.
Other than SHTF standby, and Home Defense, just training as much as possible. I guess breaking up the outline would suit my needs just fine.
Carefully consider why you are considering painting your rifle if your “mission” does not require it.
I use OD furniture. This helps break up the outline at distance without making it look poseurfied.
Everyboy gets hung up in smallish camo patterns but break-up of outline at distance is what you are going for and big patterns tend to work better at distance. Movement is what gives you away up close.
I realized long ago that the purpose of camo is not to make you invisible, it is to defeat the human brains pattern recognition abilities.
You are not trying to become invisible, you are trying to become uninteresting and unthreatning so the subconscious does not tell the higher brain “Hey look! A threat with a gun!”
Personally, I was leaning towards rychencops idea of adding FDE furniture…The idea of painting my rifle scares me.

Another reason I do not like Black Furniture is it can get screamin’ hot just sitting in the sun on a sunny Summer day in the South.
I like the way the camoed Ars look, but I can’t bring myself to paint one. I will just colored furiture!

I live and work in an urban environment, so obviously that’s where my gear spends all of it’s time. I don’t see a lot of concrete-grey options for furniture. When it comes to “furniture”, foliage would be the next best option, right? When it comes to other gear, ACU?
This is purely for information’s sake. I find black guns and gear sexy, and department regulations say I gotta keep the guns black. All my training/fun/SHTF gear is black too. If I ever need to camo myself up, I’m covering myself in mud like Arnold in Predator so neither the naked eye or thermals will see me.
