Well I hope the title doesn’t fold on itself when the work is done.
The base carbine is a RRA Entry Tactical with the chrome lined 1/9 heavy barrel.
As easily as I could have spent extra money to buy a out of the box mil-spec rifle I wanted something I could work on. I didn’t mind spending the extra money… It gave me something to do with my hard earned cash. You work hard, you play hard.
The mods (either in progress or planned):
Y/M NM M16 carrier received
LWD High Performance Bolt ordered
Spike’s ST-T2 buffer received
Geissele SSA trigger received
Magpul CTR or ACS (whenever it releases)
DD Omega Rail
Aimpoint M4S
Troy folding rear battle sight
Magpul ASAP & sling in my possession
Light setup (probably Surefire of some sort)
LaRue FUG
MOACKS (add to tool collection)
M-Guns 5.56 chamber reamer (add to tool collection)
Contour heavy barrel underneath handguard
That seems like a huge laundry list but once it’s pieced together it will look no frills compared to what I’ve seen online.
Next is a Young Manufacturing National Match M16 bolt carrier. Where’s the bolt? I have an LWD High Performance Bolt coming in direct. I might have mentioned it somewhere but they give a really nice discount to LE/MIL. I don’t want to post it publicly but if you PM me, I’ll cough it up.
I got this the other day. A Geissele SSA trigger group.
why did you decide on a YM NM BC and heavy buffer combo? might be a bit too much weight… watch out for short stroking, especially with .223 ammo. not saying you’re certain to have a problem- if not, it’ll be smooth. hold on to your RRA buffer, just in case.
Glad to see you didn’t go with a folding front sight, since your goal is zero fail. But, I would have gone with a fixed rear as well, something like the larue or LMT.
You might be a bit over weighted. If you start having problems, try a standard carbine buffer with that carrier.
I have no clue why Young doesn’t stake the NM Carrier Key…They stake them on their standard M16 carriers.
Also, I wouldn’t worry about buying the chamber reamer. Buying RRA barrels is like a lottery, some are tight some are not. Wait till you find out if it needs it, unless you plan on investing on multiple other out of spec barrels
Project has been placed on hold for a bit as of today. I will be in possession of a Noveske N4 Light Basic soon. I might end up revising the thread title when appropriate.
