My Bushmaster is not feeding like it should. The rounds are getting stuck on the feed ramps and it is really annoying. I know Bushys are not the best of choice but it is my plinker so I would expect it to work some what. I have tried different ammo, and mags. But not sure what else to try, any suggestions would be helpful, thanks.
Factory rifle or a BIY?
Factory, it has only had about 500rds and is about 2 months old. Send it back?
Send it back. tell them if they can’t get it to run that you want your money back so that you can go get a real carbine.
New guns should run good right out of the box.
Everything looks ok at first glance but the feed ramps seem to be sharper than normal, didn’t think that was an issue. most mags are new, eaven tried the mags I was issued from the Army. It was clean and lubed with CLP… Think I will send the P.O.S. back to Bushmaster and try to get a refund.

Give them a call. I Hope it works out for you.
Note I edited my response above after I read 601’s profile.
There is nothing wrong with Bushmaster, but anyway.
Can you take some pics of your feed ramps so we can see what we are looking at?
What kinda of ammo are you shooting?
Did you have the same problems with all the ammo you used?
Did you have the same problem with all the mags you used?
Did you try tightening the mag catch one turn?
Is there a gap between the upper and lower? You should be able to see light between them, but there shouldn’t be a huge gap.
What about the gas key, is it loose? Can you wiggle it at all?
My Bushy had a chewed up feed ramp, start there… Did ya have anyone with another M4 type with ya to run your mags through, or try their mags… Feedlips on mags or feed ramps??? hmmmmmmmm?
When your rifle ‘jams’ is the bolt on top of the round it’s attempting to load?
If so try this:
Load 1 round in the mag(s) fired the round. Did it lock back every time?
If not you have a gas leak problem somewhere.
Here are some other things to check:
Make sure your mag catch is adjusted correctly.
Use known good mags and known good ammo.
Make sure your carrier key isn’t loose and/or leaking. (yes some leak even when no movement can be felt)
Your gas tube shouldn’t be worn but check it anyway to make sure the end in the upper receiver matches tightly with the carrier key. If it’s worn away you’ll need a new gas tube.
Check your buffer spring length and compare it to the spec.
Lube rifle properly and generously.
Make sure your carrier key isn’t loose and/or leaking. (yes some leak even when no movement can be felt)
If it’s a Bushmaster, my money would be on a poorly staked carrier key.
If it’s a BM, you can bet your last dollar the carrier key is NOT staked properly, if at all…
… never mind, I will play nice.
My Bushmaster was not properly staked from the factory. I would definetely send it back and if a refund could be had I would grab it. You will be glad later that you did. Try to get a Colt or L.M.T., used if you have to.
Actually there is nothing really good about BM either. I do agree however that there maybe another problem that could be mag or ammo related (or spring related).

+1. I havent heard very good thing about them lately. I was told they were bought out to be used as a cash cow, or dumped if it dosnt produce the right amount of funds. Yes this is here-say and I hate here-say, but I heard it none the less.
Follow M4’s comments first before you send it back. Also, issued USGI mags might be some of the worst mags on the planet because they are kept in circulation for too long. I would not generally use them as my “test” mag.
If the weapon has run for you in the past, then most likely your gas key has come loose.

Two of the most prolific instructors in the country advise against buying a BM based on what they see in the classes they teach. This is generally called a “clue.”

I guess GOD has spoken… or its just more internet kool-aid hype, take your pick. I guess to be uber tacticool, your rifle has to be stamped LMT or Colt. Anyway, good luck with your rifle.
God? No, but people that see TONS of them in training. Have you not read this thread??? https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=5263&page=2
Question for you, how many BM’s have you owned and what is their round count? How many of those rounds have been fired in a training course?
C4
I have 3 BM’s and 1 KOOL-AID (COLT)
My very first BM has around 8000 rounds through it.
My second one is near the same.
My newest one which is a Patrolman’s Carbine is nearing 1200.
My 6920 which was bought a month after the Patrolman’s is close to 600.
No tacticool training courses.
AND yes I read that thread, a lot of the crap that goes around the internet is hype, regardless to whether or not its this site or the other one. BIAS OPINION! It mainly depends on who is talking. If you get a group of ArmaLite lovers, of course everything else to them is going to be crap. Its the same way with car stereos, tv’s, and any other thing on the market.
I never said that BM doesn’t have quality issues. But I will be damned if Colt and everyone else doesn’t either.
I don’t see where some tactical course is going to prove that BM is crap? Because someone else says so? My stay in the Marine Corp 3/7 showed me that Colt has their fair share of issue’s too. Even my background doesn’t make it so just because I say I seen it and have experienced it.
Bottom line… I am not hear to argue with you or anyone else for that matter, this guy wants to know what he can do to get his gun up and running. That what I am trying to help him with. AND the “computer chair warrior” crap gets really old.
