Primary Arms Advanced Micro Dot

Does anyone have any firsthand experience with this optic?

No first hand experience but I was recently looking at one of these for a buddy’s budget build.

I came across Primary Arms’s own torture test here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FL98k2rx5c

I would probably try the drop test with it mounted on the rifle. He’s concerned about the weight of the AK mount on the video (but not enough to not drop it).

Then I came across this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4hAwv33fLw EDIT - NSFW: language

You see two different optics with a case of the fogs. However at the end of the video it is explained that there was an update to the optic and Primary Arms’s customer service was on point. On their site they say thatit is nitrogen purged (presumably part of the update) and that should prevent the fogging.

Test it if you can. Fridge/freezer to a warm house should work.

If you are using it for primary rifle and rough use, save your pennies get an Aimpoint PRO (IMHO).

Yes they are good optics. I would not use it on my primary SHTF/HD rifles but if you have other rifles that need a red dot they are an excellent option especially since they use the same mounts as Aimpoint micros. I have not been able to kill mine be it on an AR, AK, 10/22, or 12 gauge.

Well I’m sold.

For gaming and range use I’m sure its fine. But like monk said I wouldn’t count on it for serious use.

This has been pretty much my thoughts from what I have seen. That said, for the price, am still thinking about one of their 4-14X scopes for one of my .308 rifles for hunting and range work. I figure if MAC can run it as well as he did for the 1K build it should work fine for me.

I can’t justify paying Aimpoint or EOTECH money right now. If and when things go south they’ll be plenty laying around.

as a matter of fact…I just received my PA advanced micro dot in the mail yesterday. Its a good thing P.A. has awesome customer service because the optic I received is fubar. The dot cannot be zeroed, period. When attempting to move either the windage or the elevation, the dot randomly jumps all over the viewing area of the optic. Sometimes I can make over a dozen clicks in either direction and the dot wont move at all, other times I make one click and the dot jumps all the way to the other side of the optic. Sometimes the elevation knob causes adjustments to the windage (and sometimes it doesn’t). lol. like I said, fubar. I have dealt with PA customer service before and I have to say that it was superb. I have every expectation that, when I call them tomorrow, they will take care of me. Having said that, this experience doesn’t inspire confidence. They had to replace a regular micro dot over a year ago. They got that replacement out remarkably quick and I haven’t had any issues with that optic. I hope the advanced micro dot turns out to be a winner/reliable. I really want to like the advanced micro dot. the battery life is excellent and I must say, when compared with the PA standard micro dot, the dot is much cleaner/crisper on the advanced optic. Needless to say, im a bit torn when it comes to PA. they seem like a great company and I want to like their products…just a matter of confidence/reliability etc. Anyone else have the windage/elevation adjustment issues ive had with the advanced micro dot?

Save your money and use irons in the meantime. Get a used H1 and put it on a ADM QD mount and you can move it around. If you have a number of rifles it gets expensive to Aimpoints on all of them. This is where the TRS-25 and the PA micro come in. But you should have a quality optic (if you choose to use an optic) on your main fighting rifle.

The best thing from PA is their customer service. If you get something that doesn’t work like it’s supposed to or be as durable as they claim or as durable as you expect, they’ll make it right.

I like to use their stuff as trial gear. I was looking at a 1-6 and bought the PA 1-6 to try. I wasn’t sure I’d like a 1-6 for close range shooting and the PA 1-6 was a cheap way to try it out. I have since bought the SWFA 1-6 and am very happy with it. The PA isn’t the SWFA, but it’s 1/3 the price. I’ll add that I still have the PA mounted on a gun I regularly shoot.

I’m considering Micro Dot for the same purpose and wouldn’t hesitate to order one.

Good advice…

If the optic fails in a SHTF situation, they won’t be able to make it right in time…

Who’s giving me $600?

Sure, but not everyone can afford or wants to spend their money on an Aimpoint. I’m partial to the PRO, but I realize $400 may be more than someone else can spend. My suggestion is to always get the best option for the $.

Save your money for an Aimpoint. In the mean time, master using the iron sights. Its a win-win situation.

I’ve got medals for marksmanship using irons. I’m not buying an Eotech or Aimpoint for the simple fact that I’m not kicking doors or going on patrol.

Is this for your primary rifle?

What fight?

In a “shtf” situation even in the military were taught to shoot without optics or irons because to be honest i have much more faith in marshall and his products than the crap we currently field and our armorers.

I run a PA micro dot and am happy with it for what I paid. There does seem to be a problem with the windage adjustment though, it doesn’t track right. Knowing that I used my irons as a reference to get the red dot dialed in. But I am planning on getting an aimpoint, eotech or maybe the new mepro tru-dot in the near future.
