prescription shooting glasses/eye protection

Can anyone give me some pointers on really good shooting glasses or eye protection? I am looking for something that will provide full protection to the eye, possibly more like a goggle than just glasses, as I had another shooter’s hot brass somehow make it between my hat bill and my glasses and land in my eye during a shooting on the move drill earlier in the year.

Thanks.

You can send your prescription to Oakley, they can make them for you. I don’t know the specifics though. I believe Ray-Ban will as well.

How about something like this:

Rudy project ? What’s your prescription?
This is a major factor in what you can pick. I’m over max for the Rudy inserts. Took a risk it could be done due to my prescription and it could. Some low level distortion but I have had some damage to the muscles in one eye (down 1/3) so this could be due to how my brain is processing the sight picture.

One BIG factor is what type of hearing protection you wear. Not all glasses are comfortable with muffs.

you might check out some trap shooting sites/ I personally have a pair of Zeiss glasses with my script and love them. Trap guys are big on glasses with different lens for different apps.

It depends on what you want. most of the big names have already been named, there are a few others which i’m going blank on at the moment. There will be a limit on how strong a prescription you get depending on if you get inserts vs prescription glass.

I just got the WileyX brick with their basic prescription/tint lenses, I’m enjoying them a lot currently.

I just got the ESS ICE, and will be getting the RX inserts and lenses after New Years. Can’t beat the price.

Have been wearing a RX pair of Oakleys for 5+ years for running, biking & ALWAYS when shooting. My local optical dispensary (also an Oakley dealer) had Oakley make 3 different lenses, dark, clear & persimmon (light rust, for overcast conditions).
I use the M-frame & these lenses are fully interchangeable. Oakley also has an LE/.mil program https://www.usstandardissue.com that offers up to a 50% discount AFTER you send a copy of your creds in to them. Email me direct (add. is in my profile)
if you need any additional info. re. to RX Oakleys, they are GTG.

I got issued Revision Sawflys, earlier this year in the Army and I like them alot. My main critism is that dirt and dust accumulates between the rx insert and lense, and its probably better to have just a single lense but when I have corrective surgery here soon, ill be able to just store the rx insert and continue on with the sawflys.

Picked up some Wiley XL1’s about a year ago in my prescription/gray transitions lenses from Optics Planet and have been thoroughly satisfied.

I ordered Wiley X’s before I deployed to Iraq (pre deployment leave) and got them in Country. Used them everywhere, got tinted ones and clear ones for night patrols and such. Better alternative than the crummy inserts for the ESS Ice glasses and googles they issued me. IIRC the oakley ones only have a circular portion on the glasses where its the prescription as oppose to the whole lense being prescription (like the Wiley X’s).

Which ESS inserts did you have…the nylon or the metal?

They were a hard plastic that clipped into the special nose piece.

I use THESE for shooting, riding, etc. I spent a little more for the transitions lenses.

I got 2 pairs of prescription Oakleys recently and have been amazed at how clear and sharp the Oakley HD lenses are. Check into them.

+1

I just had a pair made at the Oakley factory. Clear prescription lenses in some Oakley Gascan S Frames. I use them for every day use and for shooting.

When I first put them on I couldn’t believe how much better they were than my previous prescription lenses. The optical clarity is outstanding.

Oh and with LEO discount the frames + lenses were only $160
