Prepping periodicals. . .

In the magazines they advertise subscriptions but I can only find individual issues on the website.

Agreed, the Backwoodsman, The New Pioneer, and American Frontiersman are all geared toward the homestead/subsistence living. A lot of good info.

I found a new magazine in a Barnes and Noble this past week called “Living Ready” seems to be a well layed out, well written magazine without the crazy factor i see in some magazines where the people are getting ready for the most outlandish situations that are highly unlikely to happen i have ever seen.

Have not seen that one, thanks for the heads up.

So I don’t do the whole smart phone, e-reader, tablet thing and needed some light reading material while I waited on my truck to be inspected. I picked up the June issue of S.W.A.T. (yeah I know, I know :fie:) magazine I noticed that they are now devoting multiple articles on “prepping”, in this particular issue:

[ul]
[li]Street Smarts: Prepping Fallacies pg. 16
[/li][li]Against All Odds: Natural Disaster Clean-Up Tools pg. 20
[/li][li]Surviving An Urban Disaster: How Prepared Are You? pg. 26
[/li][li]Enemy At The Gate: Preparedness Basics pg. 36
[/li][li]Long Guns: Bayonets for Bad Times pg. 40
[/li][li]Packin’ Meat: Long-Term Preservation Primer pg. 78
[/li][/ul]

If I recall, a few months ago, SWAT magazine changed their masthead to read “Survival Weapons and Tactics” and mentioned going back to their survival roots.

Ah hah, that explains it then. I don’t know much about the old issues. I all know is that Larry Flint of Hustler fame use to publish it.

I remember that mag and have several of their issues. I have one of the first when it was called something like the american shooters survival guide. It was a great mag when Bud Lang was editing and writing.

Any chance you’d be willing to loan your issues out to be scanned?

The new issue of ASG is out. I got them to carry it at the local HEB!!! No more searching for it…

My wife is no where near a “prepper”, but she does some interesting reading. She manages a nice sizes (suburban) garden and a few backyard chickens for eggs.

She subscribes to “Mother Earth News”, a mag that bills itself as “the original guide to living wisely”. It’s mostly about self - sufficiency and living off the grid.

I know it sounds like a hippie rag, but for my generally uneducated tastes, there’s some good info.

Hah, good on you man. I can find it at only one Wal-Mart in the area. Even B&N doesn’t carry it. I wished I could subscribe but the website is not set up.

Okay here is another one I ran across recently.

Living Ready Magazine

FYI Recoil’s OFFGRID has hit newstands. Saw it at a Wal-Mart and a Barnes & Nobles.

OFFGRID issue 2 (Winter 2014) is now on newstands. I picked up a copy at WM.

I’ve been picking these up also when they come out. I’m really starting to dig their layout of this magazine. Recently, I subscribed to Recoil & was hoping to see an option to add OFFGRID. I didn’t see anything nor have I found anything yet. Does anyone know if this mag is available via subscription or is it newsstands only?

I have never seen anything in the way of subscriptions, it is a quarterly publication so who knows. Like them on FB and you can post questions to them. That would probably be the best way to get an answer.

You’re probably right. I’m not on FB though.

There are quite a few back issues of ASG (among other things) available on two sites:

First

Second
