Im looking at purchasing a factory precision ar in 5.56 and in the 1700.00 range I already have a sbr so looking for something for mid range out to 400 yards at very most, I have a bolt gun for the longer ranges and will be mostly a target gun .
Right now I’m thinking about a larue predatar in 5.56 or bcm kmr precision or knights armament. Im really leaning toward the larue what do you guys think I really want to best accuracy I can get say at 100 yards I know the larue says less than moa.
optics will be a bushnell elite 3.5-21x50 for long ranges then switching out to a 1-4 both have larue qd mounts so I can do this.
If you can find either of the KAC or LaRue for that price and in stock you’d be in luck. LaRue is over a year out, and the KAC is few and far in between and will break your 1700 mark.
The BCM is a great rifle, and it fits your range.
I personally would go with one of these, or build up one yourself
I don’t think KAC produces the LPR anymore and I’d prefer not to spend money on Larue. I love the dillos and steak rub, but that’s about it.
But honestly, the BCM is so price-efficient right now you’d be crazy not to buy one. Even if a complete BCM were in the $1700 range, I’d STILL buy one. But at $800 for a complete upper (you add in the price of a charging handle too, but get a free BCG AND a free compensator, plus a great rail and upper receiver and barrel), add another $500 or so for a lower with a great trigger and you come out ahead on price and didn’t skimp on quality.
So have any you guys have any experience with these bcm uppers I’m going to be shooting off bipod mostly and probably put a magpul psr stock on it will this get me under moa accuracy at 100?
You won’t need a PSR stock to make it precise - handloads (and probably copying the 77grSMK/XBR Power/Wolf Mag Primer load MarkM and Pappabear keep raving about) and a usable trigger and you’ll be mechanically able to make good groups in good conditions. That BCM KMR Recce is the value king for AR’s; it’s a good enough barrel that you have to be on your game, feeding it well sorted handloads, and already well into tradeoff territory of an optic large enough to help make precise shots but not into the hubble space telescope range that the optic decides how it handles. There are some other excellent match barrel options (HCS/Centurion both have Douglas based Recce barrels that are tack drivers, but they’re a fairly heavy profile; the Shilen blank Rainier UltraMatch are really impressive for the money, and the Noveske Recce units are equally capable to the best of the two previous options, but those are really pricy.
I had the BCM lower from Grant already (w/ Geisselle SSA) and was running a standard BCM 14.5" midlength with Magpul hand guards. Just bought that exact upper a week ago and took it to the range today. It’s a freakin’ tack driver. I was only able to shoot 50 yards, but easily less than 3/4" groups off a bench rest. I was just trying to get my scope sighted in on the new upper - I’m sure a better shooter than I could do much better, especially with a bipod and bag.
I have ran an 18" Larue Stealth upper for the last several years and it has been a phenomenal shooter. But I just picked up a BCM SS410 16" middy with kmr15 because of the price point and good reviews on these barrels.
Waiting on a few more pieces before I can get it out on the range, but will report back soon.
The bcm upper will shoot better than most shooters are capable. Buy it, use the money you save on a better optic and top shelf ammo. Or components if you roll your own. You have to be an elite shooter to need more.
