Practice/Training Ammo

Now that several brands are available, what are decent quality brands, brass only, adequate for nonserious use? Many thanks

Lots of good reviews on high desert cartridge company, steve fisher, kyle defoor and a few other use them as their main ammo for teaching. My next ammo buy will be from them.

Ive been using Federal and American Eagle 55 grain ball for years. Probably over 20k rounds. I cant remember any ammo related issues but there were probably one or two over those rounds. It’s the practice ammo for work so Ive easily seen another couple hundred thousand rounds of it fired over the years. Again issue free.

We recently switched to Winchester as our ammo supplier and Ive now shot about 600 rounds of their 55 grain 223 ball without issue and have seen close to 8000 rounds of it fired without issue.

Were it my money Id be looking for American Eagle or Federal.

I’ve been using Steve’s ammo exclusively for training for the last three years, in has always been 100%. I know Bill Blowers, Mike Glover and Jon Defrense also use it in their classes. Several WA state Sheriff and police departments use it as well for their training ammo.

Im gonna have to try the HDCC ammo. I need a good supplier for 38 Special

My usual FFL has just started stocking HDCC, have to see about throwing Steve some business through them.

He just started loaded .38 for the revolver class he put on the 20th of last month. I helped him chronograph his test loads.

My training ammo is my serious use ammo. IMI M193 is what I buy for all purposes. I have 3 mags of Speer 75 grain for HD. But everything else is IMI M193.

What makes High Desert Cartridge Company remanufactured worth more than new PMC X-Tac? Or are the direct/list prices higher than people are actually paying?

I’m unsure on pricing of quantity vs others, but the quality of the ammo is very high, and accuracy results are better from what the instructors are saying vs standard ots brass case fmj.

Exactly what I was thinking, LGS has all kinds of factory new ammo for 18 bucks a box of 50. Why would I buy remanufactured ammo for the same price?

Edit, this is for 9mm ammo
