When reloading for an AR SBR .223 are the best powder choices different than for full length barrel/gas tube ?
My practice ammo load of choice works great on all gas systems and rifle lengths. However it’s a mild load designed to get as many rounds per pound of powder as possible.
24.5 grains of TAC and 55 gr FMJBT W/C bullets. A couple of shooters here use this load.
What bullet are you using?
I’ve had good luck with 25.5gr of H335 under a 55gr FMJ-BT
This was discussed in depth last year with loads and chrony data I believe. Use the search for SBR Loads. The short of it, look in load data books for contender pistol loads in 223 for 10 and 14" barrels. The faster powders will give better velocity over some of the slower stuff used in 16, 18 and 20" tubes. The load I worked up didn’t cross over too well though (Accurracy and Vel), i.e. a load set up for a 10" being shot in a 20" barrel. I would compare the data from 10-14" pistol loads to rifle data before shooting it in a longer barrelled rifle.
General word is that whatever powder produces good loads for a 16" barrel for a given bullet will be the powder to use in an SBR shooting the same bullet weight.
