Polymer lowers

So I can see the benefits of the polymer lowers being lightweight and all, but what would be the downsides…

polymer is strong, but not as strong as metal. That is why I wont by a AR made of plastic. I don’t abuse my weapons, but if i trip on my way out somewhere, and I have my sling on, I don’t want to fall and break my weapon over a rock.

Not exactly sure of the downsides. It’s a relatively low stress part, more of a “housing” really, though it houses some important parts. Seems to work well in handguns! I’m sure AR “traditionalists” certainly wouldn’t like the idea. Are you thinking of obtaining one?

Take an engineered part designed to be constructed from forged 7075 aluminum, and now make it out of polymer without changing any of the dimensions. Sounds like a good idea to me.

How many times does this need to be discussed?
