My results, which I thought were interesting. Apparently I am social moderate, with mostly moderate views on a stronger central government. Sounds about right
Economic Left/Right: -1.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.77
the questions were poorly written… there were several that i had to answer “strongly agree” or “strongly disagree” when the other was true because the question was so off base from my stance, that answering accurately would have given an incorrect reading.
i think i’m far more libertarian than it gives me credit… the religious questions didn’t take into account my complete lack of faith in government and distrust of earthly authority. and the way they phrased the questions about gays im sure skewed things: i have no problem with homos in this world- i just think they’re all gunna burn in hell someday.
Economic Left/Right: 5.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 1.33
I think that there are some disconnects between the questions and how they score them. I have some personal beliefs on how people should behave and live but that does not mean that I want the government to enforce or legislate people to live those ways. I answered how I believe people should live as it does not allow for a separation of political and personal moral beliefs.
They also need a fifth choice: neither agree or disagree
While my reservations may not be exactly the same as yours, I agree. I am far more libertarian than the test scored me on since my personal beliefs and political beliefs are not the same. Ie, I have no desire to force people by regulation and law to live how I think they should live. That does not mean I think that people are better off choosing an anything goes lifestyle. I just think that they should not be forced to not choose such a lifestyle.
I didn’t save my graph, but I was
Economic Left/Right: 1.10
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.10
on their chart. Pretty much smack dab in the crosshairs.
The questions are poor, but by design – if they offered any middle ground it would be impossible to score the test, they’re forcing you to show the extremes.
I’m much like you guys (bkb and chad) – my personal beliefs are much more extreme than my political application thereof. I answered the questions more from my political viewpoint than personal and came across looking very much a fence sitter. Which is kind of funny because I have jokingly described myself as an extreme-right-wing-moderate.
I don’t think GW would test as far out as they think he would. Those questions were worded and the answers so limited it would be tough to really go that far from center.
To my great surprise, I came out almost exactly like VB – just slightly more to the right, and slightly more authoritarian. Agree that the test forces an extreme result when a more centrist position might be desired, but it’s still a decent use of five minutes.
