Political burnout?

Between the whole election mess primary and general, crisis sensationalization, fiscal cliff boondogle, gungrabbing, ObamaCare, etc and the effects all of that uncertainty has on the economy and supply and demand effects on our recreational pastime I am burnt the fuck out.

Our federal leadership at all levels sucks, this includes the senate and house of representatives. The whole damn thing is dysfunctional as fuck. Has the level of political dysfunctionality and animosity ever been as great as it is now within anyones lifetime here?

Then there is the whole role the media has played in enabling, sensationalizng and misinforming the real picture of the USA, I am having trouble not becoming apathetic.

I also get the general sense that we have entered a new ColdWar without even realizing it. This adversarial relationship between the people, and the between the people and our elected public servants is really starting to drag.
It sure would be nice if we could get this train back on track and rolling peacefully again.

I said the same thing to my 87-year-old dad the other day.

Would it be too much to ask that the media and the politicians and the intergoogle bloggers and everybody else spouting nonstop gloom-and-doom shit just STFU for a day, maybe two, and let everybody come up for air?

We no sooner go over one cliff or survive one apocalypse before we are told there are three more coming full speed ahead.

It’s exhausting. And, in my mind, calculated to just wear people down to the point they just do not or cannot give a fuck about anything anymore.

I’ll be glad when the weather breaks and I can get back out in the country to enjoy a little media-downtime. No TV, no internet, just a transistor radio for a little local news and weather … sparingly.

Quit spewing that nonsense. The dollar will be worthless in the next coming months. The U.S. economy WILL collapse by this Fall. China will buy us out and we will become part of the Peoples’ Republic.

Oh, and the world is going to end in 2016.

Hell, we had a gubernatorial recall election on top of all of this mess!

I got out of politics for a reason, but I guess I can’t get far enough away. I’m pretty sure I have shingles right now and I’m pretty sure that current events have something to do with it.

We need to be vigilant. People throwing up their hands and giving up on the good fight is why we are where we are. So many people don’t care about politics or the people running our nation they get away with far too much, and people don’t understand their voting decisions.

But yes, if you need a break, turn off the news and read some books or something. I have several other things I pay attention to and am interested in. Spend time with the kids or wife, go out to dinner or find a new recipe to make at home you’ve never tried, go for a walk, whatever…

I don’t really watch the news anymore. It’s garbage, and so full of misinformation with dumb talking heads what’s the point? They are just trying to steer people to believe what they want them to and people who don’t really matter spouting off their opinions.

Log off quick or you’ll end up with the shingles and the shakes.

Just kiddin’ around. Sorry to hear about the shingles. That can seriously suck. Both my brother and mom had 'em and they were miserable. Hope you recover quickly.

And the fight is just starting with gun control where I am.

(which is just a little south of Newtown)

That about sums it up for me. Sad times when it seems there is a constant, daily battle to remove my rights while reaching into my pocket for even more tax dollars.

I know that for 2 weeks straight, after the 2012 election…I stopped watching news, listening to talk radio and checking Drudge every few hours.

Man…did I feel good.

There WAS that ever-present “am I missing something?” thought but overall…I felt better when I took a break from this nonsense.

Slowly…I am slipping back in to that mode. Don’t listen to talk radio, don’t watch Fox News, don’t check Drudge that often, don’t read Reason Magazine either. Local news is for weather and some sports scores. Listening to CDs mostly.

With all that is going on…I just can’t take it. Life is stressful enough with work, kids and daily tasks…the news just brings me down and I really don’t need that right now.

Sorry…but yeah…at times you really need a break from the madness.

I just avoid the TV and internet for a couple of days.

Ohhh… I dunno. I think a good tea party - complete with throwing crates of Chinese-made 7 round magazines into the drink - might be just the sort of activity to lift all our spirits!

It’s worked WONDERS before!

You just lifted my spirits!

sigh

Have you driven on the Massachusetts Turnpike recently?

Cradle of liberty, no more.

Theirs always been some commie anti-gun crap posted on that wall on the Pike next to Fenway.

yeah i know this one’s the latest and greatest propaganda

eta: was with a well-known trainer in beantown for dinner this past summer.

we drove by fenway, when he saw the billboard, he was like “get me the fuck out of here now!” lol

I havn’t given up, I’m just burned out from the constant bad news, and it seems to have been constant for a solid year now, well maybe 4. It also doesn’t help that I can’t go mountain biking right now as it has been raining for 4 days straight, and the local sorba chapters really frown upon riding on muddy trails.

Hopefully parts for a new rear wheel will show up next week and keep me distracted as I lace up and tension that wheel.

Dude, you’re harshin’ my buzz!

Yeah, Burt. The way you worry you’ll get a heart attack before you get a chance to survive World War III. - Tremors

Go get laid and enjoy yourself a stiff drink. Until the lead starts flying . . . enjoy the moment and the little things. That “Girls of Noveske” video helps too.

apologies, bro. i’m surrounded by commie shitheads.
