Polished feed ramps?

Is there any downside to polishing the feed ramps on an M4? Just curious as it appears to be an effective enhancement which I’ve done on various hand guns and which has shown improved feeding performance in this application.

Dont know if there is a downside, but I have never had a need to polish any of my feedramps. There is a big diff in surface area with a pistol round compared to a rifle IMHO.

I would only polish if the rifle had VERY rough ramps… I mean enough to cause a functional issue. Otherwise, I’d want to maintain the anodizing.

The anodizing provides a hardened surface over the aluminum of the receiver. Remove it and you expose the softer metal underneath, much like homebrew trigger jobs that include polishing through the surface-hardened FCG parts. Exposing softer metal to impacts that were intended to happen on a hardened surface is probably not a good idea.

All very good points Gents. Thanks for the input. Looks like the ramps stay as is.
