Does anyone have experience with this carrier?

Of course the tube portion of the gas key takes a tiny impact on each cycle, but it seems like a pressed-and-pinned attachment would be good enough. The impact would be in the same direction as the original pressing.

Addendum - It takes a tiny lateral impact because of the slight gas tube misalignment, and a big force from the 2 kpsi gas that operates the action. But the gas wouldn’t cause a strong forward force on the pressed-in tube (I estimate 40 lbs).

2nd addendum - I suppose the gas tube could expand under the pressure and grip the walls of the gas key, thus causing a forward pulling force as the bcg moves aft. Of course the gas key tube will be expanding also.

I actually like the concept. If the tube portion of the key were properly shouldered, threaded, and torqued/pinned, it could reduce the chance of leakage and make the overall carrier stronger.

A longer gas key is actually a design benefit highlighted by several designers, keeping the gas contained in the system for a longer period of time. The was done in some northern European AR10’s to decrease fouling in the receiver, IIRC.

It would be interesting to see a high volume test.

To paraphrase Ned, eight million rifles over fifty years would be a good start.

A properly staked carrier will last the lifetime of the weapon. Not sure that it does anything spectacular at that price.
