Pmag spring ?

On 44mag you have the ability to choose between a Pmag with a chrome silicon spring or stainless steel spring. Which one does everyone prefer. Are their certain benefits to the CS spring.

Also other sites sell pmags without asking which spring you want. Which spring normally comes standard in a pmag.

The standard PMAG spring is stainless steel. Drake may correct me on this, but I believe the chrome silicon spring was abandoned because it didn’t do well when exposed to our salt spray tests.

Stainless is the only option.

44mag needs to update their website. Not to mention they appear to have NO Pmags of any variety in stock…

Bingo.

Standard grade questions…

Is it ok to store PMAGs loaded for extended period of time? Does it reduce the lifetime of the spring?

I read somewhere that one should use dust covers to release the pressure from the lips holding the last round in the mag. Does it really make a diff?

Pivo,

Congrats. I believe that you are now currently in first place for “Necroposter 2012”.

Second- your question about springs and the magazines covers has been talked about many times. I suggest that you use the search feature.

My understanding is that it is not the amount of tension (within spec) on a magazine spring, but the action of loading or unloading the spring that “wears” the spring in a magazine. Thus, whether leaving a mag loaded with 30 rounds, 28 rounds, or leaving it empty, any of those would induce less wear on the spring than repeatedly loading and unloading it.

I would appreciate being corrected if any of the above is not true.

ETA: wow, 2008! lol

Iraqgunz, please forgive me for redundant question, but unfortunately search returns hundreds of posts, I read some and I lost patience…
Also, as a moderator you would be more useful if you posted relevant link rather than shame new members and post inconsequential answers.

Jay35, thanks for your feedback.

I searched for “storing loaded pmags” and got 15 results. If you don’t have the patience to sort through that and expect everyone else to do the leg work for you than you have failed at being a good m4c member.

Once again apologies, and thanks for the hint. This is more helpful, but why are you guys so dismissive? Isn’t this forum intended for experienced people to share their knowledge with neophytes?

You’re missing the point. The forum is intended to share info, you are correct. That doesn’t mean we have to be a momma bird and chew your food for you.

Had you actually done some research and we confused then it would be a non-issue. I know for a fact that there have been mutliple threads and all of them state the same thing.

Magazines get worn from cycles (decompression and compression) and not from being loaded.

Pivo,
I don’t think it is intended to be dismissive on the part of the SME’s, Mods, etc., but in their defense, they have been around a long time and probably seen the same or similar questions discussed at length more than they can remember. Had your post been something along the lines of: "Okay, I used the search function and found this, this, and this, but they did not answer THIS question, you would most likely have received a variety of positive and helpful responses.

However, reviving a 3+ year old post to ask a questions previously covered just does not warrant much attention, as most will come to the conclusion that you did not do your due diligence in trying to find the answer on your own.

It’s a great place to learn about the M4 Carbine and the M16 / AR15 Rifles. The best I have ever come across. Don’t let IG’s post dissuade you from returning and using the forums as intended. If you have a reasonable question that he can help with and that you have previously researched without the answer you need, I am sure IG would be one of the first in line to help you with an answer.

Good luck and go shoot.

EDIT… IG posted while I was typing…

I’m a nothing in the world of trigger pullers and look at it like this.

Folks on this board that use a weapon to put down bad guys foreign or domestic have better stuff to do then spoon feed me. Guys that compete and are at the top of the shooting world have better stuff to do than spoon feed me.

So should I need an answer to something the odds are very good it has been discussed already. I search, read search read then ask a questioned based on my research and time. I’ve never seen a post like that get dismissed.

But if I ask a question that has been answered and then tell people they suck cause I’m to impatient to read what has already been put out there I’m a class A tool and self centered. That is disrespectful to the people here.

You may also note that m4 in general does not have the “everyone is a winner, here is your gold star for attendance” mentality that is cultivated in much of the U.S. And thank God for that. Deal with it and move on.

Yip, I found the notes and thank you mom for answering my redundant question anyway B-)

Thanks for feedback. I agree, this is a great site with loads of valuable info. I hear you about the old posts B-|

I think this thread is about done yes? We all know we all need to do MORE research, get to it!
