PLEASE ID THIS NOVESKE PHOTO: How can I put an iron sight when using a OGL (On Gun Laser)

What iron sight is this?

The sight is behind the laser.

What iron sights would work with a OGL?

How can I set this up?

Is this laser too far forward???

I want an OGL but really want backup irons.

This photo is one of the rotating photos on the main page…

Seems like most any BUIS would work in that configuration?

I dunno if I’d say the laser is too far forward, so much as the muzzle is a bit far rearward. Dunno if it’d damage the laser to shoot it like that, but if I had such a gun, I’d never take the can off anyway. It’s just absurdly short.

I like using fixed backup irons on my personally owned guns to protect the laser from dings and drops.

Is there any reason the laser can’t be mounted on the side of the handguard opposite of the switch in the photo?

The wire looping over is an odd choice. And is that a sling point near the underside of the muzzle?

Just move the laser to side or bottom. Simple stuff.

I’m curious why you’d want to do that vs on top?

I REALLY don’t want the laser on the side. I think it “looks” much better on the top.

I probably wont run a switch.

I like the support hand grip around the laser and using a thumb to activate the button on the top of the laser.

I’m planning this for a 14.5 upper that of course has a Pic rail. I don’t want the laser hanging off the front like this photo.

If my current Troy sight can be placed behind the laser - that would be ideal.

I know the new Eotech OGL (2026) laser is very expensive and may not be a good value but I really want that one. I also want to upgrade my Eotech EXPS3-0 with the new Eotech sight that just came out.

After all these upgrades I’ll use a bore laser to sight it in again.

I haven’t used the OGL, but as long as it isn’t thicker than your sight is tall, you’ll have no problem using BUIS behind the laser on a footlong rail. I, too, prefer to reach over the top with my support thumb to activate lasers, and reserve the side for a flashlight, also without external wires.

Depending on the arrangement of the emitters, you may be able to put the sight in front of the laser. Midwest Industries makes some fixed fronts for the PEQ15/LA5 and the MAWL, that are shaped to avoid getting in the way. I love them. Maybe they have one suitable for the OGL. Otherwise, just put the Troy behind it, maybe even a few inches behind it, using the trough between the laser and sight as an index point. It’s a backup, after all.

Verify zero with live ammo.

Looks? I’m done here.

Don’t care much for that overhang. The lenses are gonna get dirty pretty fast and like 1168 said heat might be an issue. Even with a can that lam is going to be really close to the hot suppressor. Of course as short as that thing looks to be, compromises have to be made. In all honesty that combo appears to be put together mainly for cool marketing pics, but still…

Looks aside side mounting has a mix of pros and cons. There are some zeroing quirks. Of course. Lasers and bullets don’t exactly match “ballistically” anyway so that’s always an issue. Pick your zero and learn your holds. I would go parallel offset over trying to zero at a specific range and dealing with the convergence/divergence aspect. Not a huge deal but it’s a thing. Knowing POI will be a little right or left based on which side the laser is on makes more sense to me than trying to keep up with another POA/POI that changes with the range. Still not a big deal at typical engagement ranges though.

There are other quirks, but I don’t wanna write an OT novel.

TLDR: Side mounting has its quirks but it can certainly work. Just not my personal favorite.
