please help me educate this guy !! Or educate me ! MAADI MYSTERY!

This guy is trying to trade a MAADI AK he says he took it to an “FFL” and told him it was pre ban and worth about 15-1800 , and says he bragging to all his buddies and thinks some guy went to Egypt and brought it back , …yeah … Says these are the only markings on the rifle … What’s it worth and who’s full of it here!? I think I got an idea

That would be a Maadi kit built on a Nodak Spud commercial American receiver. Not worth getting too excited over.

Rough estimate ? Thank you much for the info!

Depends on a few factors (origin of barrel, quality of the build, etc.) but for instance Atlantic sells Maadi sidefolders for $699. The machining quality on the Egyptian parts is about the bottom of the barrel. Unless you really want an Egyptian AK, I’d buy something else.

Well it’s either that or a mk99 but I don’t have a lot of info on that one yet

Is this the same Maadi AK that you were asking about in your other Maadi AK thread?

Oh , completely forgot about that one … My fault … Kinda new to this …but yes , I just got a pic of the reciever and it slipped my mind

Preban Maadi’s were imported by Steyr, that isn’t one of them. That’s not even a Maadi sporter from the late 90s. As Peshawar noted it’s a kit build on a Nodak receiver and pretty sure none of those have original barrels. Nothing special.

Sorry to keep bombarding y’all but I do appreciate all the feedback , he’s also got this ak … But he doesn’t know what parts it has other than the mk99 receiver

Ugh. That one’s a turd. My advise is to not buy either, but ESPECIALLY that one.

Peshawar is correct again. Another piece of junk.

And PLEASE do keep asking questions before you spend a dime. I’d advise steering clear of this guy as he has garbage for sale and thinks he has crown jewels.

If you are looking for a basic AKM find a Romanian SAR-1 rifle. Make sure it’s not a WASR but a SAR-1. Won’t be the prettiest thing you’ve ever seen but it will be a factory correct AKM, expect to spend about $750.00 and just make sure you get one that doesn’t have canted sights.

Keep in mind there are all kinds of AKs and lots of times people don’t even know what they have. And parts kits rifles can be a grab bag kind of thing. If you have a Polish kit in great condition with the original barrel on a Nodak receiver built correctly, you have a great rifle. If you have Romanian G kit on a JoeKen or ITM receiver built at home by a novice, you probably have a piece of garbage.

The big issue is AKs aren’t ARs, they typically can’t be built at home with the same ease. And once you install things like the barrel things are kind of set in stone regardless of if you got it right or not. You can’t uninstall it and start over like you can with an AR.

A screw build with junk parts?

No. No chance.

LOL. I was gonna ask wtf was wrong with those rivets. Been awhile since I’ve seen an AK that messed up. Saddest part is that’s probably a factory barrel that could have been a decent shooter on the right receiver with the right build.

Actually, it’s not even built on a NoDak Spud receiver. That’s a Ohio Ordnance Works (OOW) receiver.

Yup, you’re right. Just saw it from my phone and didn’t zoom in enough. Looked like that familiar Nodak matrix style engraving.

Got me too, I missed the OOW.

In the future let’s try not to start a hundred threads on one subject. I saw that OOW and realized “oh joy an Ohio Ordnance Works parts gun”. Maybe AK’s aren’t that easy to slap together…

I think I see AK 47S on the bottom of the receiver as well. I have the same markings on a Chinese Polytech that was bought and made in the Clinton years. Clinton era Post ban. Ak 47 S (SPORTER).

Not really related. And I’m betting your Polytech is actually a AKS-762 SP.

The only positive thing about a screw build is that it’s generally pretty easy to tear them apart so it can be properly riveted. Screw builds were invented so that AK’s could be built from kits without having to pull the barrel. So, fewer tools required (no press needed, no rivet tools etc) and “no need” to check head space. All of this assuming, of course, that it was properly head spaced in the first place and that lots of time and care was taken during the build. Takes far longer to do a screw build than to rivet. I’ve seen a whole lot of crap work done and nice components destroyed by careless people over the years.

One example which sticks out in my mind was someone who drilled through the old rivets… and through the barrel all the way into the chamber. He then tried to, “fix it” with JB weld. You can imagine how well that worked. Then of course you have the people that do a screw build, fill in the socket heads with epoxy so they look like rivets, and then refinish.

…and to think people ask me why I never bother to look at kit-build guns at gunshows or shops…
