Please critique my new build

This is the new SBR build I’m putting together. One lower and two uppers.

One upper will be an 11.5" BCM that will be run pretty much always suppressed. The second upper will be a factory built Noveske MK18 Mod01.

The MK18 will be used as a new training gun and possibly (depending on how policies may change in the future) be used as a work gun. I already use an MP5 on the job and work in an urban type environment. I went with the MK18 due to it’s similar size to the MP5 and for its compactness.

I have had to deploy with my MP5 from inside the passenger compartment of a car before. So compactness helps.

I understand the limitations associated with the smaller/shorter 10.5" barrel however when comparing it to the 9mm MP5 I am currently using, I feel I’m still gaining quite a bit. Not to mention I know Noveske can make their 10.5" run.

-Daniel Defense Lower w/ Parts Kit
-Magpul CTR Stock (Might get an STR as I really like the ACS style cheek wield)
-H2 Heavy Buffer
-Geissele (SSA) Trigger
-KAC Winter Trigger Guard
-HK 416 Battlegrip V1 w/ Storage Compartment (like the grip, bought this before BCM announced their version)
-BAD Ambidextrous Short Throw 45 Degree Safety Lever (part was modded to make it compatible with the DD Lower)

Upper:

-BCM Receiver
-11.5" 1:7 (BFH) barrel
-M4 Feed Ramps
-VLTOR Pinned Micro Gas Block
-Fail Zero EXO coated BCA
-BCM Medium Gunfighter Charging Handle
-Daniel Defense MK18 RIS II 9.5" Free Float Quad Rail
-LWRC Skirmish front and rear folding back up iron sights
-AAC 51T Blackout Brake (for an M42K Mod08)

I wanted to try out the Fail Zero bolt. I had it lying around now for a bit and, everything appears to be properly staked etc. If it doesn’t work out I’ll replace it with a standard full auto carrier.
Not sure about the LWRC sights, if they don’t work out right I have a set of Troys I can swap them out with.

Another thing I was debating was what to do with the the A2 flash hider on the MK18. Just leave it or put a AAC Blackout flash hider on it or maybe even a BattleComp 2.0. I’ve heard and read mixed reviews on the BC with the 10.5" barrel. Everything from “brain rattler” to more blasty than on a BC on a 16" gun but definitely doable. I suppose it is all pretty subjective in the end.

MK18 will also have an Aimpoint Micro T-1 in a DD mount and a Surefire M300A Mini Scoutlight with a Gear Sector mount and a Surefire SR07 Remote Dual Switch mounted at the 12o clock. I am also still thinking about the Centurion Arms C4 HK Style Diopter Sights for the MK18 to keep it similar to the MP5 sight picture in stead of going with more standard AR15 sights.

Thanks.

why the two again?

Is the goal to have one fulltime suppressed, and the other fulltime unsuppressed?

Also, and this is a hot point of contention of late, but given the shot barrel I wouldn’t bother with the SSA. It may well be a training issue but I have experienced bobbles at speed that I don’t have on the GI trigger. I would reserve a two-stage more for a precision upper.

Way too much aftermarket nonsense going on here…

A real FSB is all I’d use for a possible duty gun… and these nonstandard gizmos like the 45 degree thingy have no place on a gun that one of your coworkers might need to pick up and deploy if you were injured.

In this particular case, non-issue. For one, it sounds like they’re all going to be coming from the MP5 anyway so unless they’re gun guys they won’t know anything is “wrong”. Even if they are AR guys the throw is now shorter, not longer, and in the heat of the moment they won’t even notice.

I have about half my guns converted over and there is zero issue going back and forth.

Thanks for the replies.

Rob,
Of the two uppers, the Noveske MK18 upper would be used as the “work upper” assuming this transition ever gets any further and gets implemented. This whole proposed transition period is still a long way off. And if it does not pan out, in the least I will have a new gun to train with.

The BCM upper is strictly personal for me and my M4 2000. So correct, pretty much it will be dedicated suppressed.

Markm, similar to what Rob was saying, my method of thinking for why I chose that BAD 45 degree safety (and was considering the HK style sights) was tat I and pretty much everyone I work with (95% of them) would be coming straight off of the MP5.

Rob, I had not heard about the contentions of that trigger/barrel combo of late. I’ll go back and look through some of the threads here.
On the trigger I am planning on putting at least a case of ammo through this set up hopefully at another class or on drills on my own time at a minimal before I consider it for carry use.
If I have any problems with the trigger in this configuration Ill yank it and put a stock one back in there.

Thanks for your input guys.

It’s not a mechanical issue with the trigger, it’s a familiarity/training issue to some degree. The trigger works as designed, for what it’s designed for, but it’s not really designed for CQB.
