Plan on spending @ 3k on .308, which to go with?

So I want to spend 3000-3500 on a .308. I am seriously thinking of buying the SCAR 17S. But I just want to make sure that’s what I want and will be happy with. I appreciate any info from anyone with experience on the .308 platform.

For that kind of money I’d have no reservations about getting a SCAR-17S. The LMT MWS would also get a look.

Thanks, will look into that as well.

The only choices are the SCAR and the MWS. The question to ask yourself is are you getting it for a precision rifle or for a general purpose fighting rifle? That will answer the question of which one to buy.

The SCAR is 7.8 pounds. The LMT is almost 10. you do the math on that.

I know that is the part I am torn on which way to go. It will be a range gun. We have a range from 25 yards to 1000 yards. Hard thing to figure out.

I know it’s right there at the edge of your price range, but the LaRue OBR has been getting some really good press as well. May want to give them a look.

Another vote for a SCAR. With both being roughly around the same 2400 street price, it would be hard to choose. I dont think the MWS would be any more accurate than the SCAR personally since they both run 16" barrels. Maybe it would be because its a stainless barrel vs. the non-stainless on the SCAR. Both would be more accurate than me thats for sure.

One has a lots of proprietary stuff, the other has been adopted as the main battle rifle by Britain and will have plenty of easy service, parts, etc. for years to come. You may have other priorities.

I know there is not alot of aftermarket accessories for the SCAR 17S yet, but that doesn’t bother me. We all know there is plenty for the AR platforms. Just trying to figure it out. I already have a .223 carbine. Just want the right .308

Well, which optic do you visualize putting on it? An RDS (Don’t use an EOTech, by the way. The SCAR will kill it quickly) or a magnified optic? Are you primarily a bench shooter, or do you take classes or shoot from field positions?

Where are you seeing the SCAR for $2400? Not saying it’s not possible, but most likely you’re looking at $2800-$3000 from my observations. Mine was $3000 but I got it at my local store as I like to support them and I felt it a reasonable price, even if I could have shaved a couple hundred.

and the LMT MWS

The local gun shop here will sell me a SCAR 17S for 2800.00. They have it in stock.

Wil mostly be from a bench at a range. I have been looking at ACOG’s and maybe a NF 2.5x NXS. If I do the NF I will do a MRDS at the 1 o’clock position. Thoughts?

Larue OBR. Hands down.

I would add the Noveske N6 and the JP Enterprises LRP-07, both of which are likely to provide better accuracy for longer range shots.

You will probably want something other than the SCAR. The MWS would be a great choice.

Can you PM me the store’s information?

You say I shouldn’t do the SCAR, then you ask me to PM you the store info that is selling the SCAR. That’s weird.

Which one of the 2 you are talking about do you prefer? So many choices. Just want to make the right purchase. The JP looks nice as well. More research I see in my future. Ready to buy something though.

Dude, he’s not trying to screw you.

If you’re going to be mainly benching it/shooting from a rest, the MWS would be a better choice over the SCAR-17S.

If you’re going to be shooting more dynamically, you’re going to want a battle rifle over a DMR type. The SCAR is a battle rifle, the LMT is much more of a DMR type.

Quiet is probably looking for a SCAR at a decent price.
