Dose anyone know of any place that dyes gear like an armor carrier, packs, pouches, etc? I have a ton of ACU stuff, and I got a couple technique on TOS to dye ACU brownish, or greener. My problem is I leave in an apartment and don’t have the room or equipment that would hold bigger stuff. I tried google but found nothing.
I’ve heard of people taking clothes to dry cleaners to be dyed but you can probably do it at home in your washer or a big bucket and some patience. I haven’t done it yet, but I was doing some research on dying some faded jeans since I’m too cheap to buy new ones. :o
I’ve checked the local cleaners, and they had no idea what I wanted done. The process I have requires boiling a lot water. I just don’t have the room for a container in my apartment. I’ve also considered the price of shipping everything and paying for getting it all dyed, I could probably just buy stuff in a different color, but I have a ton of ACU stuff already. I believe in using what you have, and ACU works pretty good once it gets darkened up from dirt, and sweat. Dye would get it there faster.
I was considering borrowing my father’s outdoor propane burner and turkey frying pot so I could do a few pairs at a time. Know anyone that would let you borrow theirs?
Krylon
I don’t think an armor carrier, or pack would fit in a turkey frier, would it? I don’t know anyone that has one. I actully use krylon to blend my kit better, but Im wanting to brown up all my stuff with dye first. I’ve heard of some place that do gear modifications, but never that do dyeing. All good ideas though.
You got a bath tub?
I do, but it’s fiber glass. Wouldn’t it get dyed also? I rent so I don’t want to buy the apartment a new tube. That’s what’s keep me from using it.
Due to logistical requirements for dyeing, you’re SOL with your current setup
that said - try the Rattlecan with AERVOE paint… just make sure to scuff up the surfaces to be painted with some sand paper to ensure adherence.
I’m not trying to dye the stuff myself, but send it off the bigger stuff to get done. I can’t find any place that dose it so I thought I’d see if anyone here knows of one. I’ve even tried selling my ACU stuff so I could afford new stuff in coyote brown, but no surprisingly no one wants ACU. I live in the desert and ACU isn’t the best unless it gets stained from heavy use. Dying would be quicker and have better results. The dyed ACU’s I’ve seen look good, better then the grey velcro nightmare they once were.
