Thinking of buying a piston carbine. Not sure though which one would be the better made/priced for the money:
LWRC
LMT
POF
H&K (When ever it is avalible)
Or any I may have missed?
I’ll stay with .223/5.56 cal. though.
How about a Robinson arms XCR. My statement will bring some negative comments, just the same as your question. ![]()
My next purchase will be a quality lower and a GPU, built by Chris at ADDAX tactical. He utilizes the PWS piston kit in his uppers and his quality and craftsmanship are second to none. His uppers are methodically built with his own process. Heres a Link
why piston? do you own DI sticks already?
I can only contribute that I really like my LMT Piston. I hope to try some different piston ARs in the future, but for now, I’ll stick with my LMT!!!:D:D:D
Yes I own several DI guns, and have no issues with them. I just want to get something different. Piston guns havent been on my buying list until recently,I’d just like to get one before I cant, and don’t know enough about them to go right out and buy one today.
Sounds like LMT makes a real good piston upper. I had a POF upper and had no problems with it. Sold it. Recently had a LWRC M6A2 upper. Great quality and reliability. I just couldn’t get over the recoil. A 5.56mm weapon shouldn’t kick like that. Put it on consignment and bought a Robinson XCR for $1500. Unless LMT has perfected the piston upper, I would stick with DI AR’s or get a rifle like the Robinson XCR or SCAR. Thats just my opinion.
The LMT Piston rifle does have a much reduced impulse. Here is a quote from SMGLee in his thread LMT Piston vs HK 416: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=26421&highlight=Piston
“Most of the piston system on the market including the HK 416 has a much different recoil impulse than the direct gas guns, the felt recoil is more of a sharper jolt. The HK 416 recoil impulse is not as smooth nor is it as soft as the direct gas guns, but for reliability, there is no matching the capability of the HK. LMT MRP in another hand, it is about as smooth and as soft recoiling as the direct gas gun, in comparison to the HK 416, the LMT piston system are far more like the recoil of the direct gas guns than anything I have shot recently, including the LWRC, POF, and PWS.”
Follow the link and you will see his write up on the LMT Piston. My neighbor and I have shot his S&W M&P and my LMT Piston and the recoil is no more noticeable in either rifle.
I have an LWRC. Its very slick. I also have an XCR, which is pretty dang amazing. I hope to have a SCAR sometime in the near future.
Thats how I am getting my piston fix these days
It’s about the only type of system I dont currently have. Thats why I want one.So if I only have one,I want it to be the best one I can get.
We just released the Addax ATAC (Advanced Tactical AR Carbine) Gas Piston Uppers
We plan on having ATAC GPU’s ready for purchase around the end of June.
