Latest Build; PWS Piston (thanks to Lee & Jake at AR Bunker for all your help) , Anvil Arms fluted CM\CL 16” barrel, Duracoated C3 billet lower & BCM Upper (thanks to Oakridge Custom Finishing, nice job) and a DD Omega, sorry some of the pics are pretty blurry, half the ones I took didn’t come out. I guess I need a camera more than another rifle.
I’m in the process of swapping the MBUS sights for Troy, forgot about the heat issue with MBUS.
I went to the range this Saturday and Sunday to try and see if I was indeed getting buffer tilt and tube wear problems, like most piston users.
Well after about 3 full 30 rd mags I started getting this weird problem I’ve never heard of. The buffer was sticking in the very back of the buffer tube, and sure enough the tube had scuffed up on the bottom. No bad gouges or flaking of metal just a long; about an inch, scuff mark. This was causing the bolt to hang in the back of the upper. The bolt did move freely; if I tilted the rifle muzzle end down the bolt would slide forward. I thought I had used enough oil in the tube, VERY light coat of rem oil. But I guess it needed more. So I ran a heavily oiled (CLP this time) upper Mop down an back a few times in the tube, coated the spring and buffer, and she ran just fine for the other two mags. You can still see where the carrier was rubbing against the bottom of the tube but no scuff mark; obviously because of the layer of oil. I’ll post some picks when I get a better camera.
