Pistol Drill of the month September: A Rob Leatham standard

5 shots at 25 yards into the A & C Zone of an IDPA target in 5 seconds from an open holster = Good.

Kept in the A Zone = Excellent.

This is a Rob Letheam standard control drill.

Edit: I think it’s fair to do this from a low/guarded ready for the same time. From concealment, make the time limit 6 seconds.

Damnit! For some reason I thought the target was supposed to be an 8x11.

G19H, w/ optic, from concealment, JMCK Wing Clae 2.0. Pointing out the errant shot on the left.

Will go with the correct target this weekend!

This was a drill Pappabear was running at 50 yards for some single stack match he was preparing to shoot. Same time allowed, but the guys were happy getting a few A zone hits.

I shot the drill using a 4.6 in S&W M&P 2.0 .45 acp with irons and my 230 gr coated RN reloads @800 fps. Mixed brass.

I’m almost done with these then I’ll be back to the 200 gr coated LFN i prefer.

I drew from concealment.

For A and C zone hits my time was 5.56s. (Really) with all in. Good start.

For just the A Zone? Nope. I did it several times and usually got 3 shots in. Never 4 or 5. Couldn’t do it under 6 seconds.

I did it again on the timer but taking as much time as i thought i needed. To get all 5 in took me about 7.6s IIRC.

I shot the gun rested just to see what it could do, slow fire, with this ammo. At 25 yds i had several 5 inch, 5 shot groups. I “feel” it could do 4 inches. Maybe with better ammo.

I brought out my new Inglis Turkish BHP 9mm out. It was more accurate than the S&W using Fiocchi ball. Maybe I’ll try the drill with next time. As well as my optic-equipped M&P 2.0 .45.

This one reminds me of the Defoor Pistol Test 2, which I worked on a while back, and DID pass.

Hitting at 25 yards under time pressure is a whole lot different than slow firing groups, for me, with a pistol.

Ill be shooting thos one correctly in a few days.

Yea.

Funny how with an optic-equipped VZ-61 25 yd A Zone hits are very fast and easy compared to a service pistol. But by 50 yds the VZ-61’s lack of precision becomes a serious limitation. (10-12 in groups)

G19H w/ optic, from concealment, AIWB:

Did it on a steel C zone, A zone lined out with marker.

All A’s (of COURSE I’m giving myself that line break!)

Did it again, pedal to the metal, but with 2 A’s, 3 C’s:
