I am looking at getting a can for my pistol. I use two types of pistols, Glock
40 s&w and M&P 9mm. I am trying to get the pros and cons for each caliber. I am leaning tword the Glock 40 can.

Without knowing what your requirements are and how you’re going to use it…
Also, the 9 is going to be quieter with subsonic ammo, if that matters.
Unless you have a reason for going .40, I don’t see why you would lean that way.

Are you looking for enhanced lethality over 9mm?
9 will be generally smaller, lighter and quieter.
M&P’s make great hosts.
Most people who buy .40 cans are dissapointed with the reduction levels. Unless you plan to shoot it wet, I’d definitely lean towards the 9mm can. Much quieter and some are even user serviceable these days.
AAC TiRant .45+Pistons for both of your guns. Then you can suppress every practical pistol caliber.

Good call. I was looking at one of those today at my gun store. That would be the perfect solution.

I went with an Innovative Arms Shepherd .45acp can with an extra 1/2x28 piston for 9mm.
It is one of the quietest .45 cans I’ve ever shot and at $625 you can’t beat the price for the quality and the easy to get along with people who make them.
Their shop is about 20 minutes from home. They take care of all my suppressor and SBR needs.
this. a .45 can is obviously not going to be as effective on a 9mm host as a dedicated 9mm can. so many choices for 9mm, i recommend 147gr winchester talons.

The main reason that I want to go .40 S&W is that it is my main pistol caliber. My wife and I have several Glock 22,23s. That is what we have the most ammo for and that is what we like to shoot the most. I like it a lot better than 9mm. I shoot 9mm just because it is cheap……that is it.
If you really like 40 you can get the 45 Silencerco Osprey, AAC TiRant, or YHM Cobra and pick up the necessary pistons for caliber swaps.

I think i am going to go this route. I found a YHM .45 can at a local shop. Good deal on it.

Key point…make sure you can bust it open yourself.
Yeah, 9mm thru a 45 can isn’t as quiet, but it’s not going to be much louder at all. Then you can suppress the guns you actually care about, although 40 sucks to suppress as noted. And you can suppress a G21 and send quiet brass golf balls all over the neighborhood. It’s a win.
You should do some more research.
YHM makes good value rifle cans, but their pistol cans are not well-regarded.
AAC (Ti-RANT) and SilencerCo (Osprey) make the only truly hearing safe dry .45 cans. The Ti-RANT is fully user-serviceable, the Osprey is a free warranty repair if you ever crud it up.
Both cost the same, both have available pistons for .40 and 9mm use, and both sound incredible.
